Moscow, Russia – October 2, 2013 – TTK, one of the largest Russian telecom operators, announced the commercial launch of its 100G Ultra Long Haul (ULH) DWDM network in the St. Petersburg-Moscow and Moscow-Chelyabinsk-Ekaterinburg segments. The coherent optical technology increases the highway network capacity from 40 to 100 Gbit/s per optical carrier. Successful completion of the project will ensure consistently high connection quality for TTK’s corporate and private customers.
“The ULH DWDM technology is currently the most advanced in the world. It will increase the total throughput of TTK’s launched network sections by 6 times. Its implementation will guarantee new connection and data transfer quality for our corporate customers. TTK’s private customers can count on consistently high Internet connection speed even with rapid subscriber growth and a steady increase in TransTeleCom’s subscriber traffic,” said Artem Kudryavtsev, the company’s President. “We are currently implementing the technology in other network segments”.
Launch of the segments with a total length of over 3000 km completes the first stage of the company’s project to create a national 100G ULH DWDM network. The operational segment amounts to about 20% of the whole TTK 100G network under construction.
The project for using TTK’s highway infrastructure to construct a transport network based on the coherent technology of 100G ULH DWDM is being implemented on equipment from Cisco Systems, one of the leading global manufacturers. Cisco’s cutting edge telecom equipment has made it possible to create the world’s longest repeaterless data transfer segment in land line networks in commercial operation – 2600 km, from Moscow to Ekaterinburg – in the first stage of the project.
“TTK’s highway network is the most advanced in Russia, and is a crucial part of the country’s essential telecom infrastructure; its constant development and extension is of utmost importance not only for the company, but also for the whole communications market,” said Bill Gartner, Vice President of the High-end Routing and Optical Group at Cisco Systems. “We are pleased to cooperate with TTK in this project and I’m sure that it will be long-term and productive.”
