Frontier is sponsoring Five Honor and Remember Flag Presentations in Conn.
STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– On Saturday, September 21, 2013, management from Frontier Communications Corporation (NYSE:FTR, news, filings) will participate in Run for the Fallen, an event honoring fallen service members. Frontier’s participation is led by Gregg Barratt, chairman of the company’s National Veterans Committee and State Captain of Connecticut’s Patriot Guard Riders, a volunteer non-profit organization that ensures dignity and respect at services honoring fallen members of the military, first responders, and honorably discharged veterans.
The September 21 event at the Wilbert Snow Elementary School, 2999 Wadsworth Street in Middletown, Conn., will include a fundraiser to help fund memorials and scholarships for children of the fallen. Donations may be made online at www.crowdrise.com/rftfct2013.
Following the run, distinctive Honor and Remember flags will be presented to four families of fallen service members. Frontier Communications is sponsoring the flag presentation to the family of Private First Class James Carney, a 22-year old US Marine from Naugatuck, Conn. killed in action in Vietnam in 1969. This flag presentation is one of five Frontier is sponsoring in Conn. this year.
Cecilia K. McKenney, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Administrative Services at Frontier, states, “Frontier is honored to support the run and to sponsor the flags that will be presented to PFC Carney’s family and to other families this year. Every fallen service member was someone’s son or daughter, husband or wife, brother or sister. These personalized flags honor and remember their sacrifice for our freedom.”
Honor and Remember, Inc. began with Gold Star father George Lutz. Following his son’s death in Iraq, Mr. Lutz made it his mission to raise awareness of the sacrifice of military men and women through the creation of a special flag. Frontier employees in 29 states have sponsored flags. On Tuesday, September 24, 2013, Mr. Lutz and members of Honor and Remember, Inc. will visit Frontier’s headquarters at 3 High Ridge Park, Stamford, Conn. to meet with Chairman and CEO, Maggie Wilderotter and members of her leadership team to thank them for Frontier’s nationwide efforts on behalf of the Honor and Remember organization.
Mrs. Wilderotter notes, “Frontier is a proud member of The 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition with the goal of hiring 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020, The Employer Partnership of the Armed Forces and Joining Forces in addition to being a 100% U.S.-based employer. Currently, 11 percent of our workforce comprises veterans, military reservists and their spouses. We are committed to increasing that number.” She adds, “We are honored to work with George on behalf this noble cause. We are driven by a simple belief: Our service men and women were there for us; it’s our turn to be there for them. Failure of our mission is not an option.”
