MANCHESTER, NH (September 11, 2013) –

More residents in the Granite State can quickly e-mail photos, download music and surf the Internet now that FairPoint Communications has expanded broadband service to more than 90 additional homes and businesses in the towns of Sandwich, Tamworth and Rindge.

In early 2013, the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission (NHPUC) approved FairPoint Communications’ proposal to allow the company to invest approximately $2.8 million of service quality monies incurred from 2009 through 2011 to further expand broadband in New Hampshire. The total amount to be invested through this plan is $3.3 million with FairPoint’s contribution of $500,000.

“We continue to take the lead in bringing high speed Internet services to New Hampshire. High speed Internet access is very important to the state’s future economic growth and employment opportunities,” said Pat McHugh, New Hampshire state president for FairPoint. “With more than a $200 million investment in our network and infrastructure in New England since 2008, FairPoint is committed to bringing next-generation technology to New Hampshire residential and business customers.”

FairPoint, in collaboration with the NHPUC Staff and the New Hampshire Department of Resources and Economic Development identified specific regions across the state that will benefit from this investment in broadband infrastructure. FairPoint is using the funds to expand broadband in unserved areas of the state.

As a result, Sandwich, Tamworth and Rindge are part of more than 2,500 homes and businesses throughout New Hampshire that will benefit from the $3.3 million broadband expansion project. This expansion is in addition to FairPoint’s ongoing commitment to increase broadband availability to 95 percent of its access lines in New Hampshire by the end of 2013.

High-speed connection areas include portions of the following streets/roads in:

  • Sandwich: Bridge View, Chase, Durgin Bridge, Meader, Quaker Whiteface, Stevenson and Stevenson Hill.
  • Tamworth: Brown Hill, Cleveland Hill, Carrier, Great Hill, Grover, Meader and Pease Hill.
  • Rindge: Old New Ipswich, Pine, Shaw Hill and Vining.
