DTAC and Huawei to Commercialize 400G Core Router in Thailand

[Bangkok, Thailand, August 29, 2013]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that it will provide NE5000E 400G core routers for Total Access Communication Public Company Limited (DTAC), a large-scale mobile service provider in Thailand, to upgrade its Internet core equipment on the core network, bringing more diversified and smooth services to UMTS users. This is further testament to Huawei’s leading capability in 400G router technology, and its ability to assist carriers implement flexible network deployment and provide carriers with future-ready evolution capabilities.

As the UMTS mobile communications market in Thailand is undergoing rapid development, heavy data services, such as online gaming and video streaming, are seeing strong growth and demand. Meanwhile, the development of new services requires the Internet core network to have the capability to support more services and more flexible QoS. As such, DTAC and Huawei cooperate to perform upgrades on the Internet core network to simplify the network topology, improve the network efficiency, and strengthen the competitiveness in UMTS mobile communications, to improve user experience and attract more UMTS users.

Huawei’s NE5000E core routers simplify DTAC’s backbone networks, upgrade the existing 40G equipment to 400G, and implement networking between 100GE and 10GE by changing subboards, thereby protecting investments. In addition, the 400G platform of Huawei’s NE5000E core router has the capability to expand slot capacity to the T level to meet carriers’ future service requirements. Power consumption of the 400G platform is within 1 W/G, keeping energy and investment costs low.

Gai Gang, president of Huawei’s Carrier IP Product Line explained that “Rapid development of UMTS broadband and video services will generate tremendous traffic growth on backbone networks. Existing network architectures need to be upgraded. Now is the time to apply 400G technology. Huawei is leading the development in 400G technology and fully understands carriers’ network reconstruction requirements. Huawei can and will systematically simplify network architectures and improve network performance and capacity to help carriers build future-proof backbone networks.”

As a leader in global IP technologies, Huawei carrier IP products and solutions are serving China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and other world-wide leading carriers such as Orange S.A, Telefonica, and SingTel.
