Compudyne Accelerates Performance of Managed Services with Comcast Business Ethernet

Managed Services and Network Consulting Provider Using Ethernet Dedicated Internet and Ethernet Private Line to Connect Customers to their Applications and Services Hosted in its Data Center

St. PaulAugust 13, 2013 Comcast Business today announced that Compudyne, a large provider of both remote and on-site IT services, network consulting, hardware/software installation and high speed business internet services, is using Comcast Business Ethernet services to provide a gigabit connection for its customers to access their data and applications hosted in Compudyne’s Duluth-based data center.

Founded in 1988 as a local computer reseller, Compudyne has leveraged its consultative relationship with customers and the rise of cloud computing to evolve into a managed services provider that can offer its customers more comprehensive and cost-effective IT solutions. The company works with customers in a number of different industries to identify business goals and align on-premise and cloud-based solutions to lower expenses and drive business growth. Compudyne’s EDGE managed services suite includes a range of offerings, including hardware infrastructure management, proactive patch management and network monitoring, as well as cloud solutions, such as disaster recovery and backup software, and hosted mobile device management services.

As Compudyne’s business began to expand further into the cloud with managed services and SaaS applications, the company needed secure, reliable Ethernet services to help ensure that customers could access the critical applications that were being hosted in its data center. In addition, new customers or expanded services for existing ones were accelerating Compudyne’s need for more bandwidth. In order to meet this demand and maintain a high-performance network, Compudyne needed a network connectivity solution that could scale quickly and easily to keep pace with their business.

“In just over 25 years, our company has seen many significant changes in the IT services our customers need to effectively run their businesses and the underlying technology available that allows us to provide those services” said Ryan Goldberg, network engineer at Compudyne. “As we move more towards hosted and cloud solutions, our business increasingly depends on fast, reliable bandwidth like Comcast Business Ethernet services that provide our customers with the optimal access to their managed services and hosted applications.”

To address Compudyne’s high-speed Internet access and dedicated data center connectivity, Comcast Business deployed a 1 Gbps Ethernet Dedicated Internet connection in Compudyne’s St. Paul office as well as a 1 Gbps Ethernet Private Line connection to the company’s data center where customers’ applications and managed services are hosted. Comcast Business Ethernet services help enable Compudyne to provide dependable, high-bandwidth access to its solutions for customers without the need for on-site infrastructure in their main office.

“Compudyne’s evolution to a valued-added managed services provider highlights its long history of providing effective IT consulting strategies to customers,” said Chris Lyons, vice president of Comcast Business in the Twin Cities Region.  “Their growth highlights the shift we are seeing across businesses of all sizes and industries to relying more and more on cloud computing to reduce costs, simplify IT infrastructure and offer new types of services customers have come to expect in today’s business environment. As companies further rely on the cloud, they are demanding the kind of speed, security, scalability and reliability Comcast Business can offer.”
