Promotions Expand Leadership Team

Atlanta, Ga. – August, 13, 2013 – Birch Communications, Inc. a leading IP-based communications and cloud provider to small- and medium-sized businesses announced today that Leia Bates-Gatliff has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Operations and Mikail Shomade has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Engineering. Bates-Gatliff has been with Birch since 2005, and Shomade, since 2011.

“We are very pleased to announce these two key promotions within our Operations and Engineering Departments,” said Vincent Oddo, president and chief executive officer of Birch Communications. “We have so many pivotal projects right now, within each of their departments, it is important that we have leaders who can juggle the demands asked of them. Leia and Mak will be important players in the future of Birch Communications, and we are glad both of them are in the right place to continue to contribute to the expansion of the company.”

Birch Operations oversees the Customer Care, Order Processing, and Training Departments and Engineering oversees Network Planning, Engineering and the NOC. During the past several years, Operations and Engineering have overseen the successful integration of seventeen customer and facilities-network acquisitions (including Birch’s first Wireless Local Loop facilities) and the build out of more than one-hundred new network collocations across several new Local Access and Transport Areas (LATAs).

“Leia and Mak have both demonstrated strong leadership qualities as well as an ability to develop creative solutions to overcome difficult obstacles,” said Chris Aversano, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Birch Communications. “I know that both of them will continue to work hard in the future to keep moving Birch forward. Attracting, retaining and rewarding talented staff is one of the main reasons for our award-winning success. Leia and Mak represent some of Birch’s best and brightest and richly deserve this recognition.”
