Desktop-as-a-Service could be the key to overcoming BYOD concerns
NaviSite, Inc., a Time Warner Cable Company and premier provider of enterprise-class hosting, managed applications, managed messaging and managed cloud services, today announced the results of a survey aimed at more than 700 IT decision makers to better understand their BYOD challenges and feelings toward using Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) to combat those challenges. The survey revealed that despite 80 percent of respondents agreeing that BYOD is the “new normal,” only 45 percent have a formal BYOD policy in their workplace and only 51 percent were considering DaaS as a solution to access data from their mobile devices.
Not surprisingly, one of the biggest concerns facing IT executives with BYOD policies is securing company data. According to the survey, 68 percent of respondents said they were very concerned or extremely concerned when thinking about securing enterprise data on employee mobile devices. Despite this extreme concern of security, only 18 percent of respondents considered BYOD a motivator for implementing DaaS; however, 42 percent said employee demand is driving the need. When you consider that 29 percent of the global workforce operates from multiple locations, the time for organizations to consider DaaS has never been greater.
NaviCloud® ONE, NaviSite’s DaaS solution, directly addresses these top concerns and challenges for IT executives. With NaviSite, businesses can embrace the next generation workforce by providing device and location independence. End users can work and access corporate applications and data from any device, without compromising data security or resource availability. IT executives can centralize sensitive data and separate it from the user’s device – giving them full control of corporate information no matter where the user and the device are. Since NaviSite has multiple locations, datacenter challenges due to proximity are less of a concern, and because the solution is deployed in the cloud, organizations can provision or de-provision devices as needed.
“For years organizations have been trying to tackle the challenges of BYOD; more people are demanding to use their own devices for work, giving them access to sensitive data, and IT departments are struggling to figure out how to secure and manage it,” said Chris Patterson, vice president, product management, NaviSite. “When you add the growth of mobile and remote workforces, now there’s an even greater need to make sure workers can access the information they need when they need it, regardless of device. Desktop-as-a-Service is a really simple way for IT executives to have increased control over corporate intellectual property while providing more flexibility for today’s workforce demands.”
