Sprint Extends SIP Trunking for Businesses to 12 European Countries

CORT enjoys cost savings, simplicity with Sprint SIP Trunking

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), July 02, 2013 – Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) has extended its SIP Trunking solution “across the pond” with availability in 12 European countries. Businesses can cost-effectively experience the benefits of voice over IP (VoIP) and enhance network efficiencies by converging all voice and data traffic on the Sprint Global MPLS network.

Session Initiative Protocol (SIP) Trunking allows businesses to replace costly “physical trunks” that connect a PBX to a service provider network with “virtual trunks” over a single IP connection. SIP Trunking from Sprint is available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Sprint’s solution is specifically designed to meet the needs of the distributed enterprise, allowing multiple locations throughout the European region to connect over the same set of SIP trunks while preserving local telephone numbers, calling plans and emergency services. This reduces the overall number of trunks needed to implement SIP Trunking in the available European locations, thus streamlining the network and operating costs for a business.

For the past 40 years, CORT has been a leading provider of home and office furniture for more than 80 percent of Fortune 500 companies and the U.S. government. CORT is a Berkshire Hathaway company and the world’s largest provider of rental furniture. As an early adopter of Sprint SIP Trunking in the United States and now in Europe, it has 145 domestic and international locations, which are primarily retail stores so business continuity is key to its success.

“Sprint SIP Trunking has helped CORT eliminate redundant telephone and data networks and reduce the number of PBXs thus streamlining our network, bringing us significant cost savings, quality of service and helping to ensure business continuity,” said Tom Mattingly, project manager — Information Technology and Product Development, CORT. “Sprint not only makes it easy for us to implement the solutions, but it also simplifies adoption for our employees so they can quickly learn how to use and benefit from the new solutions.”

Sprint first launched SIP Trunking in 2009. SIP Toll Free also is available from Sprint and allows businesses to take advantage of their SIP trunks and existing communication system to make their own routing decisions, share capacity across the enterprise, and aggressively control costs. Unlike other service providers, Sprint SIP Toll Free supports customer-directed routing at no additional charge.

In addition, the wireless toll-free over SIP Trunking feature provides on-net calling to a customer’s toll-free service which means that the toll-free customer does not incur any usage charges for calls originating from a Sprint wireless subscriber (including all of Sprint’s prepaid brands and affiliates).

“Flexibility and scalability are key advantages of SIP Trunking and we are pleased to extend these benefits to businesses with operations in Europe,” said Tim Donahue, vice president – International and Solutions Sales, Sprint. “Sprint’s simple and flexible MPLS solution is the foundation for SIP Trunking and allows IP PBXs to deliver the features and functionality businesses are accustomed to using for voice calling along with Class of Service support of other real-time data.”
