Lightpath Supports The Blue Book Network’s Efforts To Streamline Construction Industry Collaboration

100-year-old directory publisher leverages Lightpath fiber network to transform into online workflow provider used by construction professionals across the U.S.

JERICHO, NY, July 24, 2013 – Lightpath®, a market leader in Ethernet-based communication solutions for New York metropolitan area businesses, is supporting The Blue Book Building and Construction Network’s continued efforts to better connect construction professionals throughout the U.S. The 100-year-old company has worked with Lightpath to ensure that its online services for collaboration remain up and running for the more than 250,000 users that access its website to conduct business on a daily basis.

The Blue Book Network is based in Jefferson Valley, New York, with about 500 employees, 250 of which comprise the company’s regional account representatives throughout the country. The company has grown to become the largest and most active network in the commercial construction industry, serving general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, building owners, transportation and utilities professionals, real estate developers, property managers and government agencies. The Blue Book Network has undergone a transformation since its founding in 1913, moving its industry directory services to the Web and supporting this core offering with robust collaborative tools that its users rely on to support daily communication.

Building A Next-Generation Construction Resource

As The Blue Book Network evolved its offering, it began to understand how important its collaborative tools were to the tens of thousands of businesses that used them.

“We grew quickly, from being viewed as an occasional resource to an integral component of our users’ organizations,” said Mark Griswold, Vice President and CIO of The Blue Book Building and Construction Network. “This growth came with a responsibility to the businesses we help support to ensure that we are able to deliver fast speeds and 24/7/365 availability.”

The Blue Book Network shopped local telecommunications providers and found that only Lightpath was able to offer the combination of bandwidth, reliability and affordability it needed. Further, the 100 percent fiber-based Lightpath network was powerful enough to enable the company to host all of its Web services on-site versus outsourcing them to a colocation facility. Today, The Blue Book Network hosts more than six terabytes of data in a private and secure environment. Supporting the complex operations are a Lightpath 50 MB Internet Voice Bundle and a 50 MB diverse Internet circuit that Lightpath helped The Blue Book Network build to achieve service redundancy and increased reliability.

“The reliability of the Lightpath network has helped support our operational efficiency, profitability and business continuity,” said Griswold. “Even when we faced the most trying of challenges, during Superstorm Sandy, Lightpath was able to keep us up and running without so much as a glitch.”

Moving forward, The Blue Book Network will continue to work with its users to ensure that it is delivering the services they need to stay competitive and successful.

“A core focus for Lightpath is on collaborating with our customers to determine how we can help them advance,” said Julia McGrath, Senior Vice President of marketing and business development for Lightpath. “The Blue Book Network’s work with Lightpath to do the same for the users it supports demonstrates the infinite potential and impact of our robust, reliable and cost-effective fiber-based telecommunication services. We look forward to continuing to support The Blue Book Network as it evolves its offering to meet the changing needs of the industry it serves.”

Lightpath has named The Blue Book Building and Construction Network as its Customer Spotlight of the Month for July 2013. For more information about Lightpath, visit www.golightpath.com.
