Huawei’s Dr. Philippe Reininger Elected Chairman of 3GPP RAN Working Group 3

Shenzhen, China, July 17, 2013]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that Dr. Philippe Reininger of Huawei’s Wireless Network Business Unit was recently elected chairman of a 3GPP RAN Working Group 3 (WG3) responsible for overall UTRAN/E-UTRAN (Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network) architecture and specification of protocols for Iu Iur, Iub, S1 and X2 interfaces.

The May 21 election cited Mr. Reininger’s significant contributions to wireless standards and technologies. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Louis Pasteur University in France and CNET (Orange Labs), and has over 19 years of experience in network design for mobile radio systems.

Mr. Reininger has served in key 3GPP positions since 2011 including RAN WG3 vice chairman and rapporteur for various other wireless technology areas. The RAN WG3 working group for which he will serve as chairman constitutes an important part of 3GPP’s continuing commitment to standardizing key RAN and interface technologies.

Other than 3GPP’s RAN WG3, Huawei currently holds significant roles within numerous major international standards organizations, serving in 90 key positions from chairmen and board member to rapporteur.
