Shenzhen, China , July 24, 2013]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that Huawei’s 100G networks, which span a total of 160,000 kilometers (four times the circumference of the Earth), are serving 100 customers across the globe. Huawei’s innovative 100G technology and services have garnered global recognition and ushered in the new era of optical 100G. By building information networks as wide as the Pacific Ocean, Huawei delivers high-speed connectivity anywhere to enrich people’s lives.
The emergence of cloud computing, streaming media, and mobile broadband is creating an unprecedented data flood. As a milestone in optical transport technology, 100G paves an information super highway and is poised to tame the data flood for the next decade. 100G networks provide ten times the capacity of currently mainstream 10G networks, as well as up to 8 Tb/s ultra-large capacities per fiber, which is equivalent to simultaneously transmitting 1 million channels of HD video services.
Huawei has leveraged innovation resources in the optical communications industry to make the leap from 10G to 100G. With industry-leading 100G SD FEC and 100G OTN technologies, Huawei significantly enhanced the transmission performance and efficiency of 100G systems, enabling the commercial maturity of 100G. Over the past two years, Huawei has deployed 100G networks for 100 customers worldwide.
In June 2011, Huawei built a pan-European 100G WDM backbone network for KPN International, the Netherlands, unfolding the global momentum of long-haul 100G deployments. In 2012, Huawei rolled out the world’s longest 100G network (25,000 kilometers across Asia and Europe) for Rostelecom Russia, as well as the world’s first G.653 fiber based 100G network for TIM Brazil, a prelude to a wave of 100G deployments in Latin America. Huawei also deployed Africa’s first 100G WDM network for Unitel Angola in the same year.
The 100G market in China kicked off with Huawei’s deployment of a 100G WDM network for the China Education and Research Network (CERNET), and is taking off with Huawei and China Mobile’s combined initiative to deploy the world’s largest 100G OTN backbone network.
