Ciena Adds Technology Leaders to Government Advisory Board

Board advises Ciena with unique insights on the networking needs of public sector customers

HANOVER, Md. — 07/9/2013

Ciena® Corporation, the network specialist, today announced the appointment of Jill Tummler Singer and John C. Johnson to the Ciena Government Advisory Board. Singer and Johnson join a group of technology leaders advising Ciena Government Solutions, Inc. (CGSI) on how best to address the unique networking requirements of public sector customers.

Key Facts:

  • Jill Tummler Singer served as chief information officer for the National Reconnaissance Office, an integral part of the U.S. intelligence community devoted to achieving information superiority for the U.S. Government and Armed Forces. Previously, she served as deputy chief information officer at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), where she was responsible for ensuring the CIA had the necessary technology to effectively execute its missions. Earlier in her career, Singer also served as director of the Diplomatic Telecommunications Service for the United States Department of State, where she was responsible for global network communications services for U.S. foreign missions.
  • John C. Johnson was the first assistant commissioner for the General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service – Integrated Technology Service, where he managed the largest fee-for-service information technology procurement and services operation in the U.S. Government. Previously, Johnson was a member of the U.S. Navy and has served a variety of government technology organizations, including the United States Army Signal Center, Ft. Gordon, Ga.; Headquarters 7th Signal Command, Ft. Ritchie, Md.; the Department of the Army Staff; the Defense Information Systems Agency; and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence.
  • Ciena’s Government Advisory Board provides guidance and counsel to CGSI, a wholly-owned Ciena subsidiary serving the unique networking infrastructure needs of the U.S. federal sector, on the evolving needs of the Department of Defense, civilian government agencies and research and education organizations. The advisory board provides insight and analysis into the complex government market, ensuring that CGSI’s offerings and customer support are aligned with the requirements of its public sector customers.
  • These new appointees join the following current Government Advisory Board members: the Honorable Arthur A. Money, former Department of Defense Chief Information Officer; Lt. Gen. Kenneth A. Minihan, former director of the National Security Agency; and, Richard F. Kent, CEO of Fedforce.
