Cbeyond Receives President’s Volunteer Service Award for the Fifth Time

Award Honors Individuals, Organizations for Commitment to Community Involvement, Inspires Engagement in Volunteer Service

ATLANTA (July 22, 2013) – Cbeyond Inc. (NASDAQ:CBEY, news, filings), the technology ally to small and mid-sized businesses, today announced it received the President’s Volunteer Service Award at the Gold Level in May 2013. This accolade recognizes Cbeyond’s continued commitment to community involvement and corporate volunteerism, both of which have been at the core of its culture since the company was founded in 1999. Cbeyond has now been recognized with the President’s Volunteer Service Award at the gold level in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2007.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award is the premier volunteer awards program inspiring others to take positive action to change the world. The Gold Level, the highest level of the award, requires 1,000 or more service hours in a 12-month period.

Cbeyond’s co-founders, including its founder and CEO Jim Geiger, had a vision to create a vibrant company culture that reflected a passion for service, for both customers and communities. Mirroring the entrepreneurial spirit of the company and its customers, Cbeyond has a passion-led, employee-driven community involvement approach which encourages employees to follow their passion and volunteer in areas of personal interest.

To date, Cbeyond employees have contributed more than 70,000 hours of volunteer service since the company was founded. Cbeyond’s employee volunteer program includes general and skill-based volunteer projects for departments, teams and individuals, an annual nationwide week of service, as well as non-profit board training and volunteer-driven professional development opportunities.

“In addition to improving our communities, volunteerism has helped Cbeyond create a dynamic corporate culture that enhances our workplace,” said Jim Geiger, CEO of Cbeyond. “Our employees are encouraged to not only give back, but also expand their capacity to grow both personally and professionally through their volunteer efforts.”

Cbeyond’s commitment to improving the communities where it operates as well as where its employees live and work has made Cbeyond a recognized leader in corporate volunteerism. The company’s recent community service awards include the Open Hand 2013 Community Spirit Award, the 2012 Corporate Engagement Award of Excellence from Points of Light and the 2012 Cobb Chamber/Georgia Trend Business Community Service Award for excellence in community service.

As a leading technology provider to small and midsized businesses, Cbeyond also has a strategic focus to support local STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education programs, help develop the next generation of the technology workforce, and support the creation and growth of entrepreneurs. Cbeyond employees serve as STEM education advocates in communities and schools, volunteer technology consultants to non-profits, career shadow hosts at the company, and provide key volunteer support to local organizations focused on technology, STEM education and entrepreneurship.

In addition to the company receiving its fifth President’s Volunteer Service award, in 2013 seven Cbeyond employees were also recognized with this award for their outstanding volunteer efforts.
