Sprint Velocity Receives Pipeline Award For Innovation In Connectivity

Prestigious award recognizes technology advancements that shape the way we communicate as a society

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), June 19, 2013 – Sprint VelocitySM, an end-to-end mobile integration solution developed specifically for auto manufacturers by Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings), has received two prestigious awards from Pipeline magazine’s 2013 COMET Innovations Awards program. COMET awards call attention to technology advancements that shape the way we communicate.

Sprint was the service provider winner for Innovation in Connectivity and was runner-up in the Innovative Collaborations category. The Sprint Velocity solution is a pioneering capability that helps global automakers develop and market connected services for cars and passenger trucks. The solution combines wireless expertise, customer focus and a global ecosystem to provide a personal user experience to drivers around the world.

“With in-vehicle infotainment, security and convenience features fast becoming a ‘must have’ for many drivers, Sprint Velocity offers what we believe is the most technologically advanced and most comprehensive connected services platform for auto manufacturers, wherever they are located around the globe,” said Ben Vos, general manager-Sprint Velocity and M2M (Machine-to-Machine). “We are very proud of this honor especially because of the high level competition among this year’s finalists.”

Connected car services enabled by Sprint Velocity can include music, news, weather, sports and other infotainment features, Wi-Fi connections for mobile devices, security, navigation, emergency services and engine diagnostics. Built specifically for automakers, Sprint Velocity supports open and flexible customized solutions that integrate the complex components and ecosystem capabilities required for connected services. Sprint Velocity capabilities include hands-free features designed to help drivers stay focused on the road. Sprint has a long-standing commitment to minimizing driver distraction through handset and in-vehicle solutions. For example, Drive First is a mobile application that helps keep families and especially teens safe by decreasing distractions from their smartphones while behind the wheel.
