Lightpath Recognizes Customer Innovation In Annual Awards Program

EC Infosystems named the Lightpath 2013 Customer Innovator of the Year for unique use of Ethernet-based services to power groundbreaking energy conservation product for consumers.

JERICHO, NY, JUNE 19, 2013 – Lightpath®, a market leader in Ethernet-based communication solutions for New York metropolitan area businesses, today announced that it has selected EC Infosystems as the winner of its 2013 Customer Innovator of the Year awards program. EC Infosystems will join seven other finalists being honored at a recognition ceremony in New York City today at The Four Seasons.

“Innovation is what moves us forward and at Lightpath, we focus every day on new ways to serve our customers as they grow and advance,” said Dave Pistacchio, president, Lightpath. “Our annual Customer Innovation Awards bring out amazing stories about how the businesses we support are finding new ways to collaborate, pursuing new opportunities and literally changing the world. We congratulate all of our customers that submitted compelling submissions, our seven finalists and this year’s winner, EC Infosystems.”

Founded in 1995, Uniondale, New York-based EC Infosystems is the nation’s largest Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), serving the energy industry in all 19 states that are deregulated for energy. The company processes millions of transactions every month and offers Customer Information System (CIS) and billing services for more than 100 utilities and 250 energy marketers. Most recently, the company has been focused on the development and rollout of Jasmine, a connected device for consumers that displays their consumption data, communicates wirelessly to control devices and appliances on premises, and offers significant energy conservation tools.  The Jasmine system also enables consumers to opt-in to utility Demand Response programs to remotely cycle certain appliances to save energy during peak hours, or to avoid blackouts.

While the system is easy to use, the technology that supports it is extremely complex. Millions of data transactions happen to keep all consumer systems in contact with the utility provider, constantly working to understand the capacity of the grid and actions that need to be taken to ensure it stays up and running.

“We need to maintain 24/7/365 uptime and the Lightpath network provides the reliability we require at a value that made connecting to its 100 percent fiber network a no-brainer,” said Mohan Wanchoo, president and CEO of EC Infosystems. “All of the services we’re launching for consumers require a very robust and blazing fast connection and working with Lightpath ensures that we don’t have to make any compromises when it comes to delivering our groundbreaking service.”

The Jasmine system is in early stages of deployment, and already, EC Infosystems is anticipating the need to have to increase its bandwidth to support this technology.

“As we continue to deploy Jasmine in the market, we expect to have to increase the bandwidth we take from Lightpath exponentially, up to one gig and far beyond,” said Wanchoo. “Working with Lightpath, we know that the bandwidth will be there when we need it and with the reliability we’ve come to expect.”

Lightpath will present EC Infosystems with a $10,000 award check at its Customer Innovator Awards ceremony. $1,000 checks will be presented to each of the seven finalists, including Dale Carnegie & Associates, Inc., FactSet Research Systems, Inc., GEP, Palisades Medical Center, Peapack-Gladstone Bank, San Simeon by the Sound Nursing and Rehabilitation, and The Blue Book Building and Construction Network. The Lightpath Customer Innovation Awards program is held annually and recognizes innovative use of Lightpath products and solutions. As part of the selection process, Lightpath customers submit applications detailing how Lightpath has helped transform the way they work. Lightpath selected finalists and a winning company based on review of these applications.
