GENBAND Wins Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards for Groundbreaking Deployments with Timico, Optus and Bell Aliant

Frisco, TX, June 17, 2013GENBAND, a leading developer of multimedia and cloud communications solutions, has won three 2013 Global Telecoms Business (GTB) awards in the categories of Business Service Innovation and Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation for deployments with Timico, Optus and Bell Aliant. Designed to honor groundbreaking projects involving telecom operators and service providers around the world, the GTB Innovation Awards were presented earlier this month in London.

GENBAND and Timico, a UK-based leading independent managed communications service provider specializing in converged communication, networking and hosting solutions for businesses, were recognized for deploying Unified Communications (UC) solutions featuring GENBAND’s SMART OFFICE™ multimedia application and its SMART EDGE™session border controller (SBC) solutions.  These comprehensive solutions fortified Timico with cutting-edge enterprise telephony, Unified Communications, IP interconnect and SIP Trunking capabilities.

“As part of an end-to-end enhancement of Timico’s business offering, we expanded our  previously-deployed UC solution with new mobility services delivering a consistent, rich user experience across smartphones, tablets, and desktops, illustrating Timico and GENBAND’s combined commitment to mobility and enterprise innovation,” said Sam Waicberg, Chief Marketing Officer for GENBAND. “This enhanced solution allows Timico to extend all of the benefits of unified communications to their customers across any end point, while simultaneously supporting secure SIP Trunking and seamless connectivity to other networks for advanced, cost effective delivery of voice services.”

GENBAND and Optus, one of Australia’s leading telecommunications providers, won GTB’s Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation award for the world’s first zero-interruption relocation of vital call session controller infrastructure for the Australian Taxation Office. While planning for the project took a year, the actual 30-kilometer relocation was completed in just over four days to avoid disrupting the Australian Taxation Office’s business.  Since 1999, GENBAND has been assisting Optus in the construction of its core voice networks.

GENBAND and Bell Aliant, one of North America’s largest regional telecommunications providers, were recognized for implementation of Bell Aliant’s WebRTC-enhanced hosted ‘Business UC’ offering, which leverages GENBAND’s SPiDR™ WebRTC product.  WebRTC is one of the next waves of disruptive technologies, delivering rich multimedia communications services via Internet browsers, including HD voice and video calling and collaboration, as well as instant messaging with presence for both desktop and mobile end points.

“This large, pioneering deployment of UC leveraging our SPiDR product across Bell Aliant’s networks demonstrates the immediate potential for WebRTC,” said Waicberg. “While others are still discussing market opportunities, we are pleased to be recognized for actually delivering rich communications and mobility applications that allow our customers to redefine the broadband experience.”

In presenting the awards, Alan Burkitt-Gray, editor of Global Telecoms Business, commented, “This is the seventh anniversary of our Innovation Awards and each year we see that the industry is working harder and harder to deliver exciting and innovative services to its customers worldwide. The industry is experiencing a wave of innovation, which is making a huge difference to the companies working in the industry and to all of us in business and as consumers.”
