Champion ONE Launches New X2 Bi-Directional Single Fiber Optical Transceiver for 10 Gigabit per second Ethernet Applications

New Innovation From Champion ONE Enables Full Duplex Transmission On A Single Strand of Optical Fiber and Extends The Life of Existing Cisco® Switches and Routers

BEACHWOOD, Ohio – June 3, 2013 – As the leading 3rd party optical transceiver company, Champion ONE announced today the launch of its new X2 40km Bi-Directional (BiDi) optical transceiver. The introduction of this new hot pluggable X2 technology enables service providers, healthcare institutions, universities, and enterprises to better optimize their fiber network while extending the life of existing network equipment.

BiDi or single fiber transceivers provide a tremendous benefit to network operators. By enabling the transmission of a full 10Gbps duplex signal over a single strand of optical fiber, operators can effectively double their fiber plant instantly as well as halve fiber leasing costs. This new X2 solution can generate tremendous savings by limiting the installation of new fiber or reducing the number of strands in a lease, which translates to tens of thousands in per annum savings. Utilizing single fiber optics also saves money by providing an alternative to implementing an expensive active CWDM or DWDM system.

Previously, operators would have had to upgrade their line cards to accommodate SFP+ or XFP ports to enable the use of 10Gbps Single Fiber Bi-Directional optics. Operators can now benefit by taking advantage of existing X2 ports in their Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, and other Cisco 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx series switches and routers to deliver more services to their users, thus extending the life of their existing network switches and routers.

Champion ONE’s new 10GBASE-ER X2 (LC Connector) single fiber transceivers are rated at 40km and utilize 1330nm Tx/1270 Rx and 1270nm Tx/1330 Rx wavelengths to generate full duplex communication over a single fiber strand. As an industry expert, Champion ONE has also color coded the latches for the east and west side optics to simplify the “book-ending” implementation process. These new X2 transceivers are fully MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) and IEEE 302.ae Ethernet compliant.

By leveraging an innovative approach of integrating existing SFP+ components into an X2 form factor, Champion ONE has created an exceptionally cost effective solution for end-users. These transceivers also come standard with DOM (Digital Optical Monitoring) or DD (Digital Diagnostics). This allows users to monitor parameters such as optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser bias current, and transceiver supply voltage, in real time. They are extremely well suited for datacom and telecom [Ethernet] applications, where fiber is in short supply.

“We are very excited to bring the industry this new innovation. Our customers look to us to provide them with innovative solutions that solve problems – and bandwidth and fiber optimization are top of mind. Our new 40km X2 bidis hit on both points. In addition, much like our uTune Director, these optics will provide our customers with an ROI measured in weeks or months – virtually instantaneous.” said Charlie Weinberger, Champion ONE President.

Champion ONE’s new 40km 10Gbps X2 optical transceivers are currently available for sale and are the first in a line of new X2 transceivers from Champion ONE.
