Frisco, TX, May 22, 2013— GENBAND, a leading developer of multimedia and cloud communications solutions, today announced that Zain Group, a pioneer in mobile communications across eight markets in the Middle East and North Africa, has selected GENBAND’s SMART EDGE solutions to support the launch of its IP eXchange (IPX) interconnect and wholesale voice operation. GENBAND’s SMART EDGE™ solution, consisting of the QUANTiX™ Q20 Session Border Controller (SBC) and GENView Real-time Session Manager (RSM), will enhance Zain’s ability to offer advanced new multimedia services across its existing voice and data infrastructure.
“GENBAND is helping Zain Group set the foundation to be a major IPX hub operator in line with our strategy to enrich voice and data offerings to our customers,” said Henri Kassab, Director of Roaming and Wholesale, Zain Group. “Primed with already significant organic traffic from existing customers and powered by GENBAND’s market-leading session management capabilities, our wholesale voice network will take advantage of our wireless technology leadership and coverage in our countries of operation. GENBAND understands our business challenges and supplied a technical solution that meets our needs for fast deployment, cost effectiveness and strong service level agreements.”
The SMART EDGE solution is a key element in Zain Group’s rollout of carrier-grade, wholesale voice infrastructure across the Middle East. The industry’s most widely deployed interconnect SBC for wholesale and IPX, the QUANTiX Q20 will be installed in multiple locations, providing Zain a simple-to-configure solution that is cost efficient to own and operate. Running on the geo-redundant QUANTiX Q20s, GENView’s RSM software eases day-to-day administration while routing voice sessions to maximize revenue streams.
“The Middle East IPX and wholesale market is one of the most vibrant in the world and Zain is always at the forefront of innovation and cutting-edge technology,” said Haitham Shubair, Vice President for the Middle East Region for GENBAND. “With GENBAND’s compelling future-proof offer, Zain’s end-customers will enjoy enhanced SIP-based IP interconnect voice and multimedia services through its wholesale network with the highest level of service and high reliability.”
The project will be supported by GENBAND’s Professional Services team.
