Windstream awarded federal government GSA local services acquisition contract for Region 4

Multi-million dollar GSA contract will provide voice and data services to government agencies in eight states across the Southeast

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Windstream (NYSE:WIN, news, filings), a leading provider of advanced network communications, has been awarded a 10-year, multi-million dollar contract from the General Services Administration (GSA) of the U.S. Federal Government to provide voice, Internet, data, and converged services to GSA’s Region 4. Known as the “Sunbelt Region,” Region 4 includes the southeastern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The GSA is a federal procurement and property management agency created to improve government efficiency and help federal agencies better serve the public. As a result of this agreement, Windstream has the opportunity to provide its leading telecommunications and technology solutions to more than 60,000 federal employees based in over 400 GSA-owned buildings, properties, and agencies, such as the Department of Justice/U.S. Attorneys, Department of Labor, Internal Revenue Service, and Social Security offices.

According to the terms of the General Services Administration, Region 4, Integrated Telecommunications Services – II (GRITS-II) contract, all federal government agencies with local offices in the included eight Sunbelt states will have access to Windstream’s suite of services, including the company’s award winning VoIP solution, expansive fiber optic network, and data center services. Windstream has already been serving these agencies through the GRITS-I contract, awarded to Windstream in 2006.

“GSA and the federal government look forward to Windstream’s continued quality performance in providing expert services with exemplary affect for the federal workforce,” said Ruben Mendez, GSA’s senior contracting officer for Region 4.

The Region 4 local services acquisition (LSA) contract adds another region to Windstream’s growing portfolio of LSAs, which also includes Region 1 (Northeast), Region 2 (New York and New Jersey), Region 3 (Mid-Atlantic), Region 5 (Great Lakes), Region 6 (Heartland), and Region 9 (California). Windstream holds more LSA contracts than any other provider.

“Our long track record of providing the federal government with the reliable, customized solutions they need has been proven time and again to be a valuable asset to the GSA,” said Mike Magliato, vice president of government solutions for Windstream. “With Windstream’s latest unified communications solutions — including hosted VoIP and data services — GSA’s Sunbelt Region will be able to continue providing the best quality service to its federal workers across its eight-state region.”
