May 14, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) — Today VTLWaveNet, part of the Viatel Group, and Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announce the completion of phase one of its 100G network upgrade in Europe.
The WDM platform is now fully operational for 10G, 40G and 100G services between London and Paris.
Key points-of-presence located in central London and Paris have been equipped with leading Huawei 100G Soft-decision Forward Error Correction (SD FEC) technology to facilitate 100G wavelength services.
The upgrade provides a substantial increase in VTLWaveNets network capacity along a heavily populated route. The use of electronic dispersion compensation technology means that VTLWaveNet customers will also benefit from a significant reduction in latency on the London to Paris link. With an operational network already in place, customers will also benefit from reduced lead times on services.
Businesses with large bandwidth requirements can take advantage of the 100G service to employ a more efficient way of managing traffic through a single handoff by Huaweis advanced optical transport network (OTN) switch facility.
Lucy Woods, CEO at Viatel states: The upgrade of this part of our network allows us to serve new and existing customers on what has become a key route and with VTLWaveNets own sub-sea cable into France, we offer a diverse route to many other operators which avoids the Channel Tunnel.
Jack Wang, president of Huawei’s transport product line, said: We are delighted to partner with VTLWaveNet to build this highly advanced WDM network. Huaweis soft decision technology has a distinct advantage in the international long distance backbone interconnection, providing a more reliable and better quality service for VTLWaveNet customers.
About VTLWaveNet VTLWaveNet, part of the Viatel group, focuses on European data services.
VTLWaveNet combines an advanced fibre optic backbone network with metro reach into the major business centres accessing carrier houses, data centres and the main Internet Exchanges. This enables the company to offer its customers Wavelengths, Ethernet, Dark Fibre, Co-location and SDH services. Because VTLWavNet owns the underlying infrastructure and has equipped the network with the latest high capacity optical DWDM technology and multi service platforms, it can offer these services quickly, very cost effectively, at all speeds and with all the routing and (low) latency information required.
