Bandwidth’s Chris Matton Named Outstanding Corporate Counsel – Private Company for 2013 by the Triangle Business Journal

Bandwidth’s Chris Matton is a philanthropist, father of two and accomplished Triangle business leader who is raising the bar for corporate legal excellence

RALEIGH, NC – May 15, 2013Bandwidth, one of the Triangle’s fastest growing communications technology companies – today announced that General Counsel Chris Matton was named Outstanding Corporate Counsel-Private Company by the Triangle Business Journal last month.

In 2010, Matton joined Bandwidth, one of the most exciting tech companies in the Triangle and had an immediate, meaningful impact on the business. Matton oversees Bandwidth’s corporate legal team, directs all merger and acquisition matters and serves as a key member of the executive team.

“No one deserves this award more than Chris Matton,” said Bandwidth CEO David Morken. “Chris is a driving force within Bandwidth. He’s a key leader who serves as a strategic advisor to the entire management team on a wide variety of issues. He’s been an anchor in leading Bandwidth through equity financing, acquisition, patent applications and new product launches. Chris’s signature has been part of every important move Bandwidth has made over the past three years.”

Matton is known throughout the Triangle as an outstanding attorney with stellar credentials and an illustrious history of impressive work performance for some of the area’s top companies—paired with a long track record of community involvement.

Prior to joining Bandwidth, Matton spent several years with Kilpatrick Stockton LLP (now Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP). He made partner at age 30, and amassed substantial experience in corporate, mergers and acquisitions and securities. During that time, he did work for some of the Triangle’s top companies, including Aurora Funds, the Carolina Hurricanes, Constella Group, Engineous Software, Intersouth Partners, Misys Healthcare, Novella Clinical, Regado Biosciences, Red Storm Entertainment and Triangle Capital Partners.

“Not only is Chris an extraordinary attorney, he is also a truly extraordinary example of community leadership. He dedicates substantial personal time for social, charitable, entrepreneurial and civic organizations in the area—all while being an awesome dad to his two sons. In recent years, Matton has served in the following roles in the local community: Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Caring Community Foundation; member of the Board of Directors of The Healing Place of Wake County and The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival; member of the Board of Advisors of Passage Home; member of the Board of Directors and General Counsel for NCTA and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development. In addition, he coached youth basketball with the YMCA and youth soccer with CASL.
