Optical network-to-network interface builds on Alpheus’ South Texas growth strategy by adding Ethernet connectivity for enterprises and carriers with service needs in South Texas and Mexico
HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Alpheus Communications, a leading provider of Texas metro-regional fiber and networking solutions, has expanded its capabilities to provide Ethernet services from the U.S. into Mexico through a new network-to-network interface (NNI) agreement with Marcatel, a leading Mexican concessionaire. The new relationship creates an optical NNI in McAllen, Texas, and allows Alpheus and Marcatel to buy each other’s services.
“Enterprises seem to have an insatiable demand for Ethernet services, and many Texas-based companies do business on both sides of the border. We formed this new carrier relationship so customers can continue to utilize Alpheus for their Ethernet services when they have capacity requirements into Mexico,” said Chip Robertson, senior vice president of carrier sales for Alpheus Communications. “Marcatel is well known for providing low-latency fiber routes throughout Mexico. Connecting that network to Alpheus’ Texas network is a logical extension, which ultimately benefits current and prospective customers who need capacity into Mexico.”
Marcatel has deep fiber network coverage and continually invests in its next-generation infrastructure, which carries voice, video and data services, including virtual private networks.
“Mexico has many companies doing trans-border business. Our customers will now be able to tap into the Texas market, particular in South Texas where Alpheus has such a strong and expansive Ethernet network footprint,” said Lauro Cantu, Commercial VP for Marcatel.
The NNI agreement enables each company to easily purchase transport services from one another and extend their respective geographical footprints. This alliance between Marcatel and Alpheus enables companies of all sizes to increase their Ethernet reach across the U.S. and Mexico border using trusted transport solutions from two well-established network providers.
Marcatel’s customers in Mexico will now be able to connect to their business locations throughout Texas, including the Rio Grande Valley and metro areas such as Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas/Ft. Worth. Likewise, Alpheus customers based in the U.S. will have access to networks linking them to locations including Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Veracruz.
