Verizon Casting the Spotlight on Streaming Media, Innovation at NAB

LAS VEGAS — Broadcasting, digital media and entertainment influencers from around the world are descending on Las Vegas this week for the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show.

Verizon Chairman and CEO Lowell McAdam will headline the NAB general session on Tuesday, April 9 – 9 a.m. PT in an on-stage interview with Gordon Smith, president of NAB. The question-and-answer session will highlight McAdam’s vision for the future of wireless broadband, broadcasting and competition in a multi-platform world.

At the NAB show, which runs from April 6-11 in Las Vegas and with an estimated 90,000 attendees from more than 150 countries, Verizon experts will discuss and demonstrate an ecosystem of devices, applications, media delivery platform and networks that are driving the media and entertainment industries today. From mobile news-gathering technologies fueled by 4G LTE and cloud services to streaming media, digital signage and global networks, Verizon is working with the industry in its transition to a more mobile, digital future.

In addition to McAdam’s presentation, company officials will participate on a number of panels addressing key technology issues and opportunities facing large media and entertainment companies. These include:

  • Monday, April 8 – 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. – Verizon’s Maitreyi Krishnaswamy, director of product management and FiOS TV, will participate on a panel on “TV Everywhere: The New Intersection of Content, Service, and Quality”
  • Tuesday, April 9 – 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. PT — Verizon’s Mike Weintraub, executive director who is on the Verizon Digital Media Services (VDMS) network technology team, will speak on cloud requirements for the military and government agencies.
  • Wednesday April 10 – 10:45 a.m. PT – Verizon’s Eric Reed, vice president of entertainment and tech policy, will participate on a panel on “Standing in the Canoe: How to Successfully Harness Disruption” panel on harnessing disruptive technologies.
  • Thursday, April 11 – 11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Verizon’s Stefanie Zuroff will participate on a panel, “Preventing Cord Cutting: How TVE, On Demand and OTT Services Prevent Cord Cutting (And Ensure Pay, Even if the Cord is Cut)”

Verizon also will participate in the inaugural launch of a new NAB show program, SPROCKIT, which provides a platform that matches visionary companies such as Verizon with promising market-ready start-ups that will demonstrate a vision for the future.

Louisa Shipnuck, chief marketing officer for Verizon Digital Media Services, will share the SPROCKIT stage on Monday April 8 at 11:30 a.m. PT with start-ups NewsIT and ShelbyTV and the panel will explore new avenues in the industry such as the future of content creation, management, distribution, commerce and consumption.

Verizon experts will be on-hand in Booth # SU4305 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Upper Hall to outline ways to address challenges and opportunities in the industry.
