Inmarsat Government Awarded Contract Valued at up to $3.5 Million for FEMA

Contract demonstrates growing reliance by many U.S. government agencies for cost-effective, high-quality satellite services delivered by Inmarsat Government

Herndon, VA, March 13, 2012 – Inmarsat Government, a wholly owned subsidiary of Inmarsat plc and a leading provider of secure, global, mission-critical telecommunications to the U.S. public sector, announced that it has been awarded a contract to continue providing Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The contract is valued at up to $3.5 million over five years, which includes an initial contract period of one year and the option to extend the agreement in four one-year increments.

Under this contract, FEMA will use Inmarsat satellite services to provide reliable, mission-critical communications between its supporting personnel in the event of a disaster. In emergency situations, it is essential that first responders are able to communicate immediately not only among themselves, but also with their leadership through respective command and operational centers.

“Coupled with services we provide to the Department of Homeland Security, this award demonstrates the value that U.S. government agencies place on the cost-effective, innovative and secure communication solutions Inmarsat Government offers,” said David Helfgott, President and CEO of Inmarsat Government.

As a trusted provider of MSS solutions to FEMA since 2008 via its legacy company, Inmarsat Government will provide FEMA with end-to-end solutions that consist of any combination of fixed or mobile satellite services and/or service enabling components such as communication devices, terminals, and teleport and terrestrial connections. Inmarsat Government will support these solutions with its experienced Network Operations Security Center personnel, offering network management, engineering, integration, operations and maintenance services. In support of its end-to-end solutions, Inmarsat Government will leverage its entire portfolio of satellite products and services, including Inmarsat’s new global Ka-band network, Global Xpress®, with planned deployment from 2013, with full global service expected by end of 2014.

During the last year, Inmarsat Government was named a prime contractor under the Custom SATCOM Solutions (CS2) contract, a U.S. Government program to acquire up to $2.6 billion in satellite telecom solutions and end-to-end managed network services.
