Huawei Unveils New Generation Videoconferencing Systems—Reinvent User Experience with Intelligence and Usability

[Hannover, Germany, March 4, 2013]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, will unveil its new generation videoconferencing systems at CeBIT 2013(Hannover Consumer Electronics, Information, and Communication International Exhibition), including the TE series videoconferencing endpoints, the world’s first to support voice dialing, and VP96 series MCUs, the world’s first to support 1080p60 universal transcoding. These new and improved video conferencing systems have made significant inroads in audio visual experience, intelligent control, and converged communication delivery, providing enterprises and carriers with a more intelligent, stable, and flexible videoconferencing experience.

TE Series Videoconferencing Endpoints: Innovative Voice Dialing and Unparalleled Network Adaptability

Huawei videoconferencing systems are proven in their usability and innovative capability. Huawei was the first to introduce Android tablets for videoconferencing touch control. This year, Huawei again took leadership and incorporated voice dialing into its TE series (TE30, TE50, and TE60) videoconferencing endpoints, designed specifically to meet the needs of small, medium, and large conferences. With voice dialing, you just speak out the name of the conference site that you want to connect,, and the endpoint will recognize the command and call the site.

Huawei TE series videoconferencing endpoints provide unprecedented network capability using the following technology, offering a high-quality experience with minimal bandwidth requirements: First, the Huawei TE series adopts H.264 high profile (HP) and Huawei patented Video Motion Enhancement (VME) 2.0, delivering the same high quality HD video but requiring lower bandwidth than competing products. Second, the Huawei TE series adopts H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC) and SEC 3.0, which enable conferences to go on smoothly even when the packet loss ratio reaches 20%. Third, the Huawei TE series incorporates intelligent face detection and frame rate doubling technology, delivering a stable video communication experience across different environments.

What’s more, Huawei TE series has the unique Wi-Fi access so that you don’t have to worry about the complicated cabling as the microphone array and control pad can all connect to the endpoint via Wi-Fi.

VP96 Series MCUs: High-Quality Experience Brought by Intelligence and Innovation

Huawei’s new generation VP96 series Multipoint Control Units (MCUs) feature large capacity, openness, and interoperability. The three models, VP9630, VP9650, and VP9660, can meet the videoconferencing requirements of enterprises and service providers regardless of their sizes and fields. Users can add boards to the MCUs to expand the MCU capacity when they wish to upgrade their videoconferencing platform. Among the three models, the VP9660 provides the largest capacity in the industry as it supports a maximum of 168 1080p HD video connections and supports universal transcoding, which is sufficient to set up a large-scale network.

With the unique 1080p60 universal transcoding capability, the VP96 series MCUs enable different devices, such as telepresence systems, personal videoconferencing endpoints, HD videoconferencing endpoints, and video phones, to join the same conference with different protocol, resolution, and bandwidth. Each participant will be able to receive the full experience that fits into their device capability and network bandwidth. On the participant side, every single site is able to have its own continuous presence layout and video feed. The MCU can apply universal transcoding to the content as well. When the chair site shares content at 1080p, the MCU processes the content based on the resolution and capacity of different sites to make sure every site could get the needed information. All these functions are performed based on the automatic negotiation between the MCU and endpoint, totally free of manual intervention. In combination with the Huawei Service Management Center (SMC) 2.0, the VP96 series MCUs can seamlessly integrate with other communication systems, such as Microsoft Lync, Huawei eSpace, IBM Sametime, and Skype.

The VP96 series MCUs also provide dynamic assignment of port resources, which increases resource usage efficiency and return on investment (ROI). For example, the VP9630 with 8-site universal transcoding capability at 1080p30 can support 4-site at 1080p60 or 16-site at 720p or 4-site at 1080p30 and 8-site at 720p.

To facilitate applications, the VP96 MCUs are embedded with Interactive Voice Response (IVR). After participant endpoints dial the IVR conference ID or MCU IP address, the MCU plays the IVR to guide participants through conference creation or participation, eliminating the need for IT personnel assistance. In addition, the VP96 series MCUs incorporate the embedded gatekeeper (GK), and users can initiate, schedule, and control conferences from an intuitive web interface.

The VP96 series MCUs also offer the ISDN feature as an optional value-added service. With the ISDN service configured, ISDN users can access the MCUs using ISDN data connections, which simplifies network deployment and reduces network construction costs.
