Partnership Enables KVH to Economically Deliver Point to Point 100G Services Between Major Japanese Cities
TOKYO AND PETALUMA, CA LIF . , MARCH 1 4 , 2013 – KVH , Asia’s leading information delivery platform , and Cyan , a leading supplier of software defined networking (SDN) solutions for carriers and data center operators today announced that they have partnered to deliver the first 100 Gigabit Ethernet service in Japan. The innovative ultra high capacity service will be available in a broad set of Japan’s major metropolitan markets . The ser vice leverages Cyan’s DTM 100G coherent transponder module which, by consuming a single slot in any Z Series platform, provides unprecedented optical reach flexibility while minimizing cost.
KVH, responding to continuing customer demand for ever more bandwidth in order to address burgeoning internet and cloud computing applications, is rolling out its 100G service with multiple service quality levels at highly competitive prices.
KVH successfully completed field trials of the new service earlier this year using the Cyan Z Series packet optical transport platform (POTP), XC 2800 2.8 Tbps multilayer switch fabric, and DTM 100G coherent transponder module. Yoshiyuki Hamada, Vice President, Systems & Technology of KVH, commented , “As KVH has been experiencing overwhelming customer demand for higher capacity network services, we are excited to be launching KVH 100
Gigabit Ethernet Service, and are proud to be offering this service as the first of its kind in Japan. We’re looking forward to working with Cyan to deploy highly reliable, high performance solutions to our customers as a neutral network services provider.”
According to Andy Wu, Cyan Vice President of Sales for the Asia Pacific region, “KVH has long been recognized as a technology leader in Asia and their delivery of 100G services to major metropolitan areas throughout Japan is just the latest example of that leadership. Cyan is pleased to be able to leverage its compact, flexible, cost effective Z Series platform and advanced Blue Planet software defined network (SDN) system to help KVH meet the demanding requirements of its customers.”
With the option of using Blue Planet , Cyan’s carrier focused SDN system, KVH is in an advantageous position to leverage its 100G service offerings with advanced applications enabling comprehensive service orchestration. These applications, which can be provided by Cyan, third parties, or developed by KVH itself, can eve n extend visibility and control of 100G services to KVH customers.
