Cbeyond’s General Counsel Bill Weber to Speak at COMPTEL PLUS

ATLANTA, March 5, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Cbeyond Inc. (NASDAQ:CBEY, news, filings), the technology ally to small and mid-sized businesses, today announced that William H. Weber, the company’s senior vice president and general counsel, will speak at the COMPTEL PLUS Spring 2013 Convention & EXPO, March 10-13 at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

On Monday, March 11 from 2:30 — 3:15 p.m., Weber joins panelists from the Patterson Advisory Group, Altman Vilandrie and RapidScale for “BYOD: Maintaining Corporate Policies in an Untethered World,” a panel discussing the IT complexity facing businesses as corporate-controlled devices become less prevalent, but the use of standardized corporate applications remains a necessity. The panel will focus on the role the Cloud is playing in facilitating a customizable, device-rich environment for employees and the security challenges this shift poses for the IT departments of both small and large businesses.

On Tuesday, March 12 from 11:15 a.m. — Noon, Weber will join fellow panelists from COMPTEL, LS Networks, XO Communications, and tw telecom inc, in a discussion entitled “The Competitive Spark for Innovation: Where Policy and Business Strategy Converge”.  Panelists will discuss innovative products and services launched by competitive providers, how customers are benefiting from them, and why competition policy plays a vital role in continued innovation as networks evolve to IP technology.

On Wednesday, Mar 13, from 9:45 — 11:00 a.m, Weber joins a third panel entitled “How should the Section 251/252 Process Apply to SIP Interconnection?” featuring representatives from Eckert Seamans, Gillian Associates, CenturyLink and Charter Communications.  This panel will explore the differences in opinion between competitive carriers and incumbents regarding whether the Section 251/252 process should apply to SIP interconnections in order to sustain and expand competitive entry.

“Disruptive technologies, new business models and regulatory changes continue to drive huge shifts in communications consumption and usage at all levels of business,” said Weber, Cbeyond’s general counsel. “It matters now more than ever that we continue to shed light on the issues, threats and opportunities faced by small and mid-sized businesses, the job engine of the nation, as they seek to adopt new technologies such as cloud.”

Weber joined Cbeyond in 2006 as the company’s first in-house counsel, and now serves as general counsel, leading the company’s legal and regulatory departments. Before Cbeyond, Weber spent four years at Covad Communications, rising to vice president of Regulatory Affairs and Operations, leading regulatory and legislative affairs in 28 states. Weber taught law at the University of Georgia and practiced commercial litigation at a large Atlanta law firm before joining Covad.
