SUNNYVALE, CA and MOSCOW — (MARKETWIRE) — 03/12/13 — Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN, news, filings), a leading provider of Digital Optical Networks, and Akado Telecom (trademark of KOMKOR, OJSC.), a major multi-service cable network operator in the Moscow region, announced today the launch of Akado Telecom’s high-speed metro optical network in Moscow and the surrounding region based on the Infinera DTN and ATN platforms.
Akado selected Infinera for the flexibility, scalability and simplicity of Infinera’s integrated end-to-end solutions. With the new metro transport network using Infinera’s Digital Optical Network architecture, Akado will be one of the first fixed network operators in Russia to deploy a next generation DWDM infrastructure able to support 100 GbE services.
Russian service providers face the need to continue investing in their network infrastructure to keep up with growing bandwidth demands while ensuring scalability and maintaining a high level of service quality. These requirements are a critical factor in securing customer loyalty, maintaining corporate reputation and intensifying competition for subscribers.
Akado Telecom provides a full range of advanced communication services based on its own fiber-optic network, which extends more than 18,000 kilometers. Akado’s multi-service network provides high-speed residential Internet access, voice services, and cable TV services, as well as a broad range of enterprise services for businesses. Infinera’s DTN platform will provide a right-sized solution for the metropolitan core network and the ATN will provide a compact metro aggregation solution with a common network management solution for end-to-end point-and-click transport services.
With demand for bandwidth driving 10 gigabit services and emerging interest in 100 GbE services coming from their customers, Akado Telecom needed a modern DWDM backbone network with integrated OTN switching capabilities. With its intelligent algorithms managing bandwidth utilization, Infinera’s DTN solution was chosen by Akado to ensure a higher level of network efficiency, at the same time providing a way to reduce operational and capital costs and ultimately lower total cost of ownership.
“The new solution we implemented offers us a flexible next generation DWDM network and intelligent tools to rapidly deploy additional bandwidth resources,” said Vitaly Klishin, business development director at Akado Group. “As one of the first service providers in Russia to offer 100 GbE services, we are committed to continuously satisfying the needs of over 3,500 enterprises, 350 service providers, and over 12,000 state organizations, and will further innovate our backbone network in 2013.”
“We are excited to be selected by Akado Telecom for their metro core and access aggregation deployment and will continue to work with them as they build out this next generation network throughout the Moscow region,” said Chris Champion, vice president EMEA sales. “We are committed to Russia and helping our customers succeed in this market.”
Akado’s deployment of Infinera’s DTN and ATN platforms provides them with a state-of-the-art network. The Infinera DTN platform, powered by 100 Gb/s photonic integrated circuits (PICs), is designed to scale up to 6.4 Tb/s of transmission capacity per fiber today and support services with speeds up to 100 GbE. The Infinera ATN, a scalable WDM transport platform with multi-service aggregation, brings the intelligence and integration of the Infinera Digital Optical Network to the metro edge.
