TelePacific Announces Enhanced Ethernet over Copper Speeds up to 200 Mbps

Los Angeles, Calif. – U.S. TelePacific Corp., which does business as TelePacific Communications (TelePacific), announced it is doubling its current 100 megabits per second (Mbps) data rates up to 200 megabits per second (Mbps) via its Enhanced Ethernet over Copper (EEoC) access ecosystem in California and Nevada.

EEoC combines multiple bonded copper pairs in the same access facility to provide a single high bandwidth circuit capable of supporting the most demanding voice and data services, including Ethernet private line, SIP Trunking, Internet access, MPLS and VPLS VPN.

“A lot of industry observers think fiber is the future and they want to write off copper,” says David Zahn, Vice President of Marketing at TelePacific. “But the reality is that fiber is only available in about 30 percent of office buildings across the nation, primarily in downtown metros and large office parks. EEoC helps fill the void.”

TelePacific’s EEoC services are currently available from 247 of its EoC-enabled LSOs in California and Nevada, putting an estimated quarter million small to medium sized businesses within reach of Ethernet-based broadband services that are less expensive and much faster to provision than solutions involving third-party fiber or DS-3 circuits. In addition, the number of EoC-enabled LSOs will grow to 284 during the first half of 2013.

TelePacific’s EEoC build out was part of a larger effort to re-architect the company’s entire network to be more capable, redundant and survivable, according to Zahn. Over the past decade, TelePacific made a number of acquisitions and integrated the infrastructure of those organizations to form a single network that surpassed all other competitive carriers in its footprint. More recently, however, the company completely transformed its local access, core, data and voice networks to improve network quality and scale for ongoing growth.

“We have made considerable investments to enhance our network capacity, performance, reliability and operating cost-efficiency,” says Zahn. “Customers can be sure that TelePacific will continue developing and delivering solutions that help them grow their businesses for years to come.”
