High-speed network so span 30 cities throughout the country and supports the New Zealand Government’s Ultra-Fast Broadband Initiative launched in 2012
Auckland, New Zealand and Paris, France – February 5, 2013 – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and Telecom New Zealand today announced an agreement to deploy an Alcatel-Lucent converged 100 gigabit-per-second (100G) optical network to more than 30 cities nationwide offering high-speed transport services, to help support future Telecom services, including the introduction of a retail fibre product as part of the New Zealand government’s “ Ultra-Fast Broadband” initiative.
Scheduled to launch around the middle of 2013, the new network combines the power of IP and optical networking to help Telecom New Zealand address fast-growing subscriber demand for advanced business services such as high-definition video, high-speed Internet access, Voice-over-IP and the content delivery networks needed to enable movie processing and high-speed data links for Internet servers.
