Mayors of Amsterdam and Haarlem visit EvoSwitch

At the end of November we welcomed a delegation of the Mayors of Amsterdam and Haarlem, as well as heads of 18 regional companies, to our AMS1 carbon neutral data center in the Netherlands.

Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam and Chair of the Amsterdam Economic Board, joined Bernt Schneiders, Mayor of Haarlem and our Managing Director Eric Boonstra to discuss drivers for economic growth in the Greater Amsterdam region.

Mayor of Amsterdam visits EvoSwitch

The Amsterdam Economic Board, which facilitates cooperation between industry, academia and government to promote Amsterdam as a major hub for innovation and tech-centric companies, discussed the (digital) infrastructure requirements needed to attract companies. Eric presented EvoSwitch’s success story of high growth and emphasized the particular importance of power availability for continued growth.

Amsterdam ranks second in Europe for availability of power and the importance of power availability for our customers wishing to grow inside our data center was emphasized.

Information on our low Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) score was shared. Thanks to innovative technologies, we’ve been able to achieve energy savings of 40 per cent compared with traditional data centers, which obviously has been very attractive to businesses.

Also discussed, was how international companies have been encouraged to host in the Netherlands thanks to our carrier neutrality and our excellent connectivity – over 45 connections – with carriers and leading Internet Exchanges. The strong pull effect of our access to carrier networks on international companies looking to host private or public clouds, connect their networks and deliver their content as cost efficiently as possible, was likewise a hot topic for the meeting.

We were very happy to receive the delegation and discuss the drivers for economic growth in the region; we’ll definitely be staying in touch and are certainly happy to help when we can.
