XO Communications Extends its Ethernet Services Leadership with New Speeds and Expanded Nationwide Coverage

Introduces 100 Mbps Ethernet over Copper Speed and Expanded Ethernet Access Coverage to Nearly 2 Million Business Locations

HERNDON, VA – November 7, 2012 – XO Communications today announced major enhancements to its Ethernet services capabilities with the addition of 100 Mbps Ethernet over copper (EoC) access speeds and an expansion of its nationwide Ethernet access network to nearly two million business locations.

XO Communications now offers a broader range of high-speed Ethernet over copper access options up to 100Mbps, supporting even faster access to the company’s portfolio of VoIP, network, security and cloud-based services.  As one of the first service providers to deploy EoC technology on a nationwide basis, XO Communications has been a pioneer in providing business and wholesale customers with more cost-effective alternative Ethernet access options to fiber optic technology.  Ethernet over copper technology enables XO Communications to utilize the existing last mile copper infrastructure to deliver Ethernet access from 3 Mbps to now up to 100 Mbps, supporting significantly more bandwidth for customers at a more economical cost compared to other access options.

In addition to increasing it Ethernet access speeds, XO Communications will expand its nationwide EoC coverage before the end of the year and bring the total number of XO Ethernet-eligible Local Switching Offices to more than 500 nationwide.  With this expansion XO Communications will be able to reach nearly two million U.S. business locations.  This expanded EoC coverage along with the company’s extensive Ethernet Network-to-Network Interface (NNI) agreements with dozens of carriers and cable companies gives XO Communications one of the most extensive Ethernet access networks in the industry.

“Today’s announcement, along with the launch of our nationwide 100Gbps network last month, demonstrates XO Communications’ Ethernet services leadership in terms of the broad range of bandwidth options we offer and our commitment to making Ethernet more widely available,” said Don MacNeil, chief marketing officer at XO Communications. “As demand for Ethernet continues to accelerate, XO Communications is very well positioned to deliver cost effective, scalable, high-speed Ethernet access options coupled with extensive nationwide coverage.”
