The Carolinas Center for Oral and Facial Surgery selects Windstream for managed network and cloud services

Windstream’s solutions – including MPLS, Managed Network Security, and Public Cloud Solutions – improve reliability and reduce costs across the center’s four locations

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Windstream, a leading provider of advanced network communications, today announced that the Carolinas Center for Oral and Facial Surgery has chosen the company to provide managed network and cloud computing services that meet the Center’s expanding needs.

These managed services – in addition to the Center’s existing Windstream voice and data services – give the Center a completely integrated set of Windstream’s solutions, simplifying its IT infrastructure and the ongoing management of the network.

“Before partnering with Windstream, we considered buying several new servers of our own, but found it to be cost prohibitive, and it would require a lot of upkeep on our part,” said Danny Ketola, business manager for Carolinas Center for Oral and Facial Surgery. “To complete a network upgrade on our own – and maintain it – would have involved adding more IT staff. Now, we can rely on Windstream to manage our infrastructure for us, knowing that they will keep our applications running securely and smoothly for our operations.”

The Carolinas Center for Oral and Facial Surgery is the largest oral surgery practice in North Carolina, and the only accredited oral maxillofacial facility in the Charlotte area. With four locations and a consistently increasing number of patients and procedures, the amount of data the Center stores and processes has grown dramatically. Some of the Center’s equipment – such as sophisticated CT scanners that create 3D images of a patient’s bone, nerves, and teeth – produce large file sizes that require tremendous space and processing power. The Center, which has been a Windstream customer for more than 10 years, turned to the provider to develop a fully managed solution that could handle the load.

Windstream’s integrated solutions for the Center include Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) with Virtual Private Network (VPN) to connect the Center’s four locations, as well as Managed Router, Managed Network Security, and Public Cloud Solutions. Windstream’s Public Cloud Solutions deliver resources, applications, and servers, regardless of when or where they are needed. Customers have access to Windstream’s state-of-the-art infrastructure – powered from its SSAE 16 certified enterprise-class data centers – for processing, storage, networking, and security, which allows a company’s infrastructure capacity to be changed on demand.

As a leader in oral and facial surgery, the Center often implements the latest imaging software and other applications available in order to best treat its patients. In the past, adding those new applications was a process that could take weeks to complete. With Windstream Hosted Solutions, the application is easily tested on a backup server, and if successful, can be integrated into the Center’s IT infrastructure within minutes.

“Working with Windstream allows us to be more proactive in continuously improving our patient care,” said Ketola. “I know that our IT infrastructure is in Windstream’s capable hands, and I don’t have to worry about routing tables, security, or the system going down. Instead, I’m able to concentrate on applications that directly improve the experiences of our patients.”

Windstream offers a full suite of advanced network communications and technology solutions, including voice and data services such as VoIP, SIP trunking, MPLS, and dedicated high-speed Internet. Windstream also offers managed services, cloud computing, disaster recovery, and networking services designed to help businesses increase productivity and improve operational costs.
