Integra Telecom Introduces Dark Fiber Services

Expands High-Bandwidth Offerings to Wholesale and Enterprise Customers
PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 13, 2012 – Integra Telecom, Inc., a leading provider of fiber-based, carrier-grade networking, communications and technology solutions, introduces Dark Fiber services as a cost-effective and easy-to-deploy option for carriers, wireless providers, data centers and content providers. Integra’s Dark Fiber services deliver seamless network expansion, accommodate mobile backhaul and increase on-net connectivity for wholesale customers as well as large enterprises in industries such as healthcare, government and education.

Building upon the strength of its Wholesale Data Networking and Internet products and services, Integra’s Dark Fiber services provide bandwidth up to 400 gigabits-per-second (Gbps) of lit transport per fiber pair across Integra’s extensive fiber network. This highly scalable solution addresses wholesale customer demand for high-bandwidth network capacity and reliable data transport alternatives, while offering enterprise customers unprecedented flexibility for their own dedicated networks. With more than 150,000 fiber miles owned and operated by Integra, Dark Fiber customers enjoy robust security for metro or long-haul networks and complete control over network design, while conserving capital investment in network infrastructure. Integra offers multiple lease options including capital lease and Indefeasible Rights of Use (IRU), which provide low cost per bit for high bandwidth applications and eliminate variable construction costs. The lease-to-own option is also offered on an individual case basis.

“As business requirements for high-bandwidth applications continues to increase, both carrier and enterprise customers are evaluating alternatives for cost-effective, highly scalable network data transport,” said Joe Harding, senior vice president of marketing at Integra. “Integra’s Dark Fiber leverages the value of our network assets, meeting this demand with easy-to-manage, high-bandwidth sold through flexible bundles, lease options or IRU depending on customer needs.”

Integra’s Dark Fiber supports diverse routing, delivering uninterrupted connectivity for a variety of applications including:
– Carriers looking to expand metro and/or long-haul networks or fortify backhaul for on-network data centers;
– Government agencies needing private, secure networks that can support increasing data requirements with virtually unlimited bandwidth and low latency;
– Healthcare or educational institutions who wish to link multiple facilities via dedicated internal networks as well as ensuring maximum bandwidth for external communications; and
– Large enterprises that require fully redundant network infrastructure to support business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives.

Dark Fiber services illustrate Integra’s strategic focus upon delivering bandwidth-intensive networking solutions to wholesale and enterprise customers and support the company’s existing facilities-based fiber portfolio including Ethernet services,  Wavelength Services, Private Line and High Speed Internet. With metro availability in Boise, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle Spokane and plans for expansion, Integra’s Dark Fiber assets are also available within the company’s dense 5,000-mile long-haul fiber network.
