Frontier Communications Celebrates Veterans and Veterans Day

Activities include Military Hiring Programs, Educational Partnership with the History Channel and Honoring Employee Veterans

STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Frontier Communications Corporation, the largest communications company focused on serving rural America, announced today that it has hired more than 435 veterans since November 2010. Its hiring efforts through the Employer Partnership of the Armed Forces , the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a dedicated website and active recruiting are part of the company’s continuing outreach to returning service members and veterans.

According toMaggie Wilderotter, Chairman and CEO of Frontier, “Members of the military have a well-earned reputation for leadership, teamwork, accountability and discipline. In addition, many have been in military roles that complement skill sets Frontier and other companies need, such as information technology, customer service and technical operations.” She added, “We are committed to doing all we can to reduce the number of unemployed veterans. It’s especially important to give our all during these difficult economic and high-unemployment times. Our military men and women were there for us; it’s our turn to be here for them.”

In addition, Frontier Communications, in partnership with The History Channel, brought the Take a Veteran to School Day program toWashington state’sPicnic Point Elementary School in Edmonds and toButternut Creek Elementary School in Aloha. As part of the program, students had the opportunity to honor local veterans during each school’sVeterans Day Assembly.

A national initiative developed by The History Channelto link veterans with students nationwide, Take a Veteran to School Day is designed to help children learn more about the history ofVeterans Day. The program connects generations and helps young people learn about the past through the voices and experiences of veterans from all backgrounds and walks of life.

With Frontier’s support, students gathered to hear stories of service from invited veterans. The students wore T-shirts, bracelets and buttons provided byThe History Channel, recited the Pledge of Allegiance and performed patriotic songs for the veterans.

As part of The Red Crossprogram Holiday Mail for Heroes, the Picnic Point students created thank you cards for active military members, military families and veterans and presented the cards to representatives from theRed Cross during the assembly. “The simple act of receiving a card with a holiday greeting or message of thanks is an enormous morale booster and can have a great impact on a military member,” saidChuck Morrison, Executive Director of theSnohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
