Cisco to Receive Moscow Government’s Awards

Cisco Activities to Promote IT Education Recognized by Russian Authorities

MOSCOW – Nov. 8, 2012 – During the 2nd Moscow Assembly of employers and social partners of Moscow vocational education system, Cisco has received an honorary diploma from the Moscow Government “for effective social partnership with institutions of secondary vocational education in Moscow.” The award for the “Best Partnership Practice 2012” honored Cisco’s collaboration with the Moscow Business College No. 11. Thus, Cisco activities to promote IT education in secondary vocational education in the capital of the Russian Federation received high recognition.

Key Facts / Highlights

  • Collaboration between Cisco and Moscow Business College No. 11 began in 2009, when the Cisco Networking Academy™ program was opened at the institution. Since then it has provided IT Essentials and ССNA® certification courses. It also trains the instructors to teach CCNA program.
  • In 2010, the Networking Academy® offered a new program at Moscow Business College No. 11, in which unemployed and low-income residents of the Russian capital can acquire basic knowledge of information technology free of charge. First of all, the Centre enrolls persons sent for professional retraining by the Employment Service under the Moscow Department of Labor and Employment. Networking Academy programs were fully incorporated in the curriculum of the College’s IT Department.
  • The College has also become the coordinator of the Program for Modernization of Professional Training in Networking Technologies for Secondary Vocational Institutions, and now oversees the entire process of introducing the Cisco Networking Academy program in Russian secondary vocational institutions, from preparation of computer classes and curriculum development to trainings on the use of educational resources of Cisco. With the College’s support 10 Cisco academies were opened in Moscow at secondary vocational institutions.
  • In the past academic year, 7334 students were trained in Cisco academies in Russia, and 25 099 students have been trained since the introduction of this program in Russia. These initiatives envision retraining unemployed people and those suffering from economic hardship.  By 2015 the number of networking academies in Russia should triple (from 217 in June 2011 to 650).
