COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2012, October 8, 2012 Overture, the preferred Carrier Ethernet edge and aggregation partner for service providers and network operators worldwide, today provided details of its Release 12.2 for the Overture 239, 400, 500, 600, 4000, and 6100 product lines. The broad software and firmware update provides an array of improvements and upgrades designed to increase scalability, speed deployment and improve manageability of services built on the company’s market-leading Carrier Ethernet-over-Copper (EoC) platforms.

“As demand increases for both wholesale and retail Ethernet, one of the primary focus areas carriers worldwide face is how to quickly deliver high-speed, high-performance service while minimizing provisioning and turn-up costs,” said Vijay Raman, vice president of product management and marketing at Overture Networks. “This release fulfills the need by offering our customers new tools and features that help shorten and streamline the turn-up cycle. This in turn allows them to recognize revenue earlier and drive substantial cost-savings.”

The upgrades and enhancements in Release 12.2 are focused in four areas:

  • Increasing aggregation capacity– with this new software, the industry-leading stackable Overture 4000e aggregation platform can now accommodate up to 120 remote EoC demarcation units in a stack.
  • Improving rate and reach– with the addition of extended crosstalk cancellation and new span profiles for virtually touch-free service turn-up at speeds up to 15.3 Mbps per copper pair, the system automatically selects the highest rate available based on deployment guidelines, loop condition, and configuration. Additionally, it measures loop attenuation and maps to the maximum baud rate.
  • Simplifying operation– with a range of new tools for troubleshooting and service activation such as VLAN loopbacks, TDR, and tone generation on the demarcation units, service providers can reduce operational expenses and speed deployment.
  • Reducing the cost of high-capacity demarcation – with the addition of a powerful new Ethernet demarcation platform, the Overture 4000cp can bond up to 24 voice-grade copper pairs to deliver 100s of Mbps symmetric service to business customers and mobile towers.

Overture’s Release 12.2 for its 239, 400, 500, 600, 4000, and 6100 platforms is available today through the company’s online customer portal.
