Lynn University Selects Modcomp to Deploy Cisco Voice and Data Communications Solutions for Final Presidential Debate

Boca Raton, FL – October 3, 2012 – Deerfield, Florida-based Modcomp was chosen by Lynn University to help it meet the stringent requirements from the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) to provide a completely separate and highly secure environment for all data and voice communications during the final presidential debate, which takes place on the Lynn University campus October 22. The debate will be moderated by chief Washington correspondent for CBS News, and Face the Nation moderator Bob Schieffer.

The CPD has a long list of complex requirements that need to be fulfilled. For example, no existing equipment could be used for either voice or data infrastructures. Consequently, Lynn University knew it needed to find not only a partner that could handle these rigorous and necessary security requirements for the debate, but also one that could take the equipment and technology the university purchased and, after the debate, repurpose it to replace its existing network infrastructure, adding additional equipment needed so that its entire system would undergo a much-anticipated replacement.

Modcomp, a longtime Cisco partner, provided the winning solution for both the university’s needs for the presidential debate and well beyond. Beating out seven other firms responding to the university’s request for proposal earlier this year, Modcomp’s team is now hard at work assembling and installing the technology components for the debate.

“We knew that this was more than simply assembling all the right components,” says Victor Dellovo, President and CEO of CSP, Inc., parent company of Modcomp, Inc.  “We needed to create a malleable design that brought together the best-of-breed technologies in a cohesive architecture with simple and straightforward management options. Yet while management and flexibility are at the highest level of consideration for the overall project, this design had to provide a safe and highly secure operating environment for the short-term circumstances of the final presidential debate. By working with Cisco, we knew we could design solutions for the short-term that would serve Lynn University in the long term so that the school is not simply buying technology for a single-time use.”

Modcomp’s team designed a solution architecture with Cisco that both companies believe exceeds Lynn University’s requirements and expectations with real-time intrusion detection and prevention, Network Access Control, self-provisioning guest portals, network monitoring and segmentation, and policy and bandwidth management and enforcement.

Cisco has extensive experience in providing products and services for events requiring reliability, flexibility, and scalability in their networks, including the London Olympics and each of the last three Democratic and Republican National Conventions. In 2012, Cisco provided the communications infrastructure and support to meet the intense needs of the conventions, including wired and wireless solutions for unified communications, video technologies, network security, and network management. In addition to the main convention halls, Cisco’s coverage included the convention centers, transportation centers, hotels, local party offices and data centers in each of the host cities. Together with Modcomp, the same support resources are being brought to Lynn University for this last debate of the 2012 presidential election.

Modcomp will provide a full implementation and support team during the days leading up to the debate (October 12-22). Cisco’s subject matter experts are already on tap with support as the implementation gets under way and will continue through the debate timeline. Modcomp’s remote NOC (Network Operating Center) monitoring services will also be deployed on Lynn University’s behalf for the full engagement timeframe.
