Level 3 Expands and Improves Quito’s Data Center Infrastructure to Meet Customer Demand

QUITO, Ecuador, Oct. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ —  Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced it has expanded its data center in the city of Quito as a response to increased demand resulting from growth in important economic sectors such as insurance, retail and banking. These enterprises increasingly require more data center and IT services.

The expansion also comes as part of Level 3’s strategy to extend its data center expertise globally by upgrading and expanding data centers and managed services.

“The Ecuadorian market shows a growing demand for data housing, hosting and value-added services,” said Francisco Guzman, Level 3’s head of Sales and Services in Ecuador. “The trend to outsource these services to a trusted business partner that will support the customer in its expansion strategy is crucial for companies today so they can focus on their core business.”

The expanded Quito facility, one of Level 3’s Premier Elite data centers, offers a holistic solution to ensure customers’ businesses can continue to grow with the right amount of space, power and infrastructure services to meet their needs. The infrastructure enables the hosting and managing of business critical enterprise information and technology platforms, reducing operations, administration and maintenance expenses for customers.

In addition, the facility will provide additional capacity to Level 3’s 14 existing data centers in Latin America and to its more than 350 data centers worldwide.

All Level 3 data centers are located directly on Level 3’s global backbone, reducing latency and costly metro access, and providing the freedom to connect to alternative service providers.

“Enterprises can face challenges with the reliability and growth of critical applications if they are not closely situated to the network core,” said Gabriel del Campo, Level 3’s senior vice president ofData Centersfor Latin America. “Customers benefit from using Level 3’s data centers because we offer direct connectivity to our infrastructure, which can enhance reliability of business applications and, in turn, enable businesses to expand more quickly.”
