Syosset Fire Department Extinguishes Connectivity Issues And Supports Latest Rescue Technology With Optimum Lightpath

State of the art headquarters and sub stations powered by 100 percent fiber network puts vital information at fingertips of more than 150 volunteer firefighters.

JERICHO, NY, August 14, 2012Optimum Lightpath®, a market leader in Ethernet-based communication solutions for New York metropolitan area businesses, today announced that its 100 percent fiber network is supporting the Syosset Fire Department’s three state of the art facilities in Syosset, New York. As a result, the department can take advantage of many advances in communication technology to increase efficiencies, better serve residents and keep firefighters safer.

Syosset Fire Department is the largest fire district in Nassau County, serving residents via a main headquarters and two substations throughout Syosset. With more than 150 volunteer members, the department responded to 2,298 calls in 2011. Before switching to Optimum Lightpath, Syosset Fire Department’s three stations were connected via a legacy copper network that limited bandwidth. Today, with the support of a high-performing, flexible and high-speed fiber network from Optimum Lightpath, the department is able to take advantage of the latest advances in emergency response.

“The safety of our firefighters and ability to respond to resident calls quickly with real-time information hinges on a reliable network that will let us stay in full communication at all times,” said Jack Randazzo, Superintendent, Syosset Fire District. “We are a 24/7/365 operation and anytime we’ve needed Optimum Lightpath, they’ve been available to ensure that our network is functioning properly. Given the importance of the work we do every day, we strive to stay a step ahead of the technology curve – Optimum Lightpath helps us do that.”

Protecting Residents By Remaining On Cutting Edge of Technology

Syosset Fire Department relies on Optimum Lightpath’s network to power 50 IP-based cameras for real-time monitoring, and remotely control lights, garage doors and traffic signals at its two substations, increasing personnel efficiencies. The department also uses the network to push vital call information to volunteers at all locations, including building information and layout, hydrant location, known hazards, directions, and previous calls to a specific location. This includes communicating the information wirelessly to fire trucks that are equipped with mobile dispatching terminals.

“Optimum Lightpath has a proven reputation for powering government organizations throughout Long Island and the New York metro area,” said Julia McGrath, senior vice president of marketing and business development, Optimum Lightpath. “We know that when it comes to serving communities during an emergency that response time is critical. >From providing a fast network at a high value to fast response times for customer support calls, Optimum Lightpath delivers the speed its customers need to help communicate information that ultimately saves lives.”

Optimum Lightpath has named Syosset Fire Department its Customer Spotlight of the Month for August 2012. For more information about Optimum Lightpath, visit www.optimumlightpath.com.
