Berlin, Germany – August 21, 2012
Participants in Berlin experience high-speed mobile surfing, gaming on 4G mobile broadband
Telefónica Germany and Nokia Siemens Networks are showcasing LTE’s (Long Term Evolution) low latency and high data transmission rates at the first ever pan-European Campus Party. The weeklong, 24-hour a day technology festival and technology hub allows “campuseros” – enthusiastic technologists, developers and gamers – to experience the latest in Internet technology taking place in Berlin.
From August 21-26, 2012, the former airport area “Tempelhof” in Berlin, Germany, will be transformed into the world’s largest annual technology festival attracting more than 7,000 campuseros. Highlights of this year’s Campus Party will include mobile gaming and video streaming demonstrations which elegantly display the hands-on advantages of 4G LTE technology with its low latency and high data transmission rates.
During the festival, campuseros can see and be part of two LTE demonstrations: LTE mobile reporter, where camera equipped reporters interview participants and highlight HD TV transmission over LTE; and online gaming, where two players compete interactively using a gaming system connected by LTE. These demos will allow participants to experience the benefits of LTE mobile broadband first hand.
“LTE is here now; it’s a reality”, said José Carlos Sampedro, who is responsible for Telefónica Germany at Nokia Siemens Networks. “End-users can see, feel and use it. The Campus Party is a great opportunity to be in touch with power-users – early adopters who are an important part of the target groups for LTE”.
The Campus Party was founded in Málaga, Spain, in 1997 as a hub for technology enthusiasts, with the goal of uniting the best young talent on the Internet to share ideas, learn, and build a better tomorrow through initiatives like #somethingbetter.
In the past 15 years, the 250 people who attended the first Campus Party have grown into a global community of more than 214,000 campuseros with annual events taking place in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Bogotá, Colombia; Valencia, Spain; Quito, Ecuador and Mexico City, Mexico in addition to special European, Mediterranean Basin and Ibero-America events. The festival in Berlin will be the first Campus Party held in Germany.
With 63 commercial references in place for the delivery of LTE, Nokia Siemens Networks is number one in the world in mobile broadband.
