Level 3 to Transform U.K. Forestry Commission’s IT Communications Infrastructure

Government Department awards four-year contract to Level 3 to help improve efficiency, achieve PSN compliance

LONDON, Aug. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced that it has been awarded a four-year contract with theForestry Commission, the UK government department responsible for the protection and expansion of Britain’s forests and woodlands. Under the terms of the contract, awarded under the Government Procurement Service Managed Telecommunications Convergence Framework (MTCF), Level 3 will deliver data and voice network, collaboration and broadband services to help the commission improve efficiency across the organisation, support an increasingly mobile workforce and achieve compliance with the Public Services Network (PSN) standards.

The contract will enable the Forestry Commission’s workforce to benefit from greater flexibility and adaptability in supporting organisational change.  The Forestry Commission’s IT team will also benefit from a centralised management hub, ensuring compliance and security, while reducing annual expenditure from £2 million to £1.3 million. The deal also provides additional resilience and redundancy to theForestry Commission, ensuring business continuity in the event of a disaster at its key locations.
