CDN accelerates popular online game during period of explosive growth
COLOGNE, GERMANY AND SANTA MONICA, CA – August 14, 2012 – While participating in the Game Developers Conference, EdgeCast Networks and Halfbrick today announced that Halfbrick’s wildly popular Fruit Ninja Frenzy game – now with more than 5 million monthly players – is being accelerated and delivered by EdgeCast.
EdgeCast will be hosting an interactive case study at the company’s GDC Europe booth (#145), where attendees can play the game and win prizes for high scores.
Halfbrick recently extended their Fruit Ninja game to the Facebook platform and the game quickly went viral, now with more than five million players per month.
“It’s a delight to team up with a worldwide network that lets us concentrate on designing games and not worrying about infrastructure,” said Phil Larsen, chief marketing officer, Halfbrick. “Since going live with EdgeCast, we’ve been blown away by the performance of our game and we have the peace of mind of knowing we’re always ready for more.”
Response time is critical in online gaming – with even the smallest amount of lag, players will quickly become frustrated and abandon play, having a direct negative impact on game revenue. With Fruit Ninja Frenzy gaining such rapid traction, Halfbrick knew that working with a top content delivery network was essential.
“Speed is one of the most important components of the online gaming experience,” said Anthony Citrano, EdgeCast VP of communications and marketing. “We designed our network with low-latency applications such as gaming in mind, so it’s particularly exciting to know that our network is playing a part in supporting Halfbrick’s incredible success.”
Halfbrick is also using EdgeCast to deliver their new title, Jetpack Joyride.
