Windstream Connects St. Mary’s Episcopal School Campuses With Enhanced Data, Network and Phone Systems

Windstream Fiber Optic Network and IP Simple Unified Communications Solutions Bring Advanced Technology to the Memphis School

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., July 16, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — St. Mary’s Episcopal School, a college preparatory school for girls in grades K-12 in Memphis, Tenn., has selected Windstream (NYSE:WIN, news, filings), a leading provider of advanced network communications, to upgrade the school’s data, network and phone systems.

Windstream is installing a new fiber optic network to connect the school’s two campuses with two 50 MB data circuits to provide the school with increased bandwidth and faster Internet speeds for faculty, staff and students. This upgrade will allow the school to increase the use of technology in its classrooms, enhancing school curriculum and learning opportunities for students. In addition, Windstream will connect the two campuses with Windstream’s Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network.

“It is our mission to provide the 860 girls at St. Mary’s with access to the best educational resources available,” said Melissa Lofton, director of technology, St. Mary’s Episcopal School. “We no longer feel constrained by the limits of our old network. Windstream’s solutions will allow us to bring the world into our classrooms, enriching the learning experience for our students.”

Windstream is replacing two antiquated phone systems operating independently on each St. Mary’s campus with Windstream’s IP Simple solution. The Windstream IP Simple solution is a fully integrated Managed Unified Communications solution combining Voice over IP (VoIP), data, and a business phone system from Allworx — a Windstream company — into one bundle. With the IP Simple solution from Windstream, St. Mary’s will be receiving Allworx 48x Phone Systems, which support up to 250 users per system and will offer faculty and staff advanced features such as built-in voicemail with unified messaging, and site-to-site networking that will connect both campuses.

“Windstream works with schools like St. Mary’s to bring the power of today’s technology directly into the classroom,” said Don Perkins, vice president of Business Marketing at Windstream. “St. Mary’s can now take advantage of the benefits of a high-speed fiber optic network, and rest assured that they can transmit large amounts of data quickly and efficiently — something they could not do before.”

Windstream has a nationwide fiber optic network spanning 115,000 route miles across the country. With an unparalleled mixture of metro, long-haul, and diverse routes, Windstream’s fiber network delivers high-capacity capabilities and a robust portfolio of advanced data, voice, and network services to offer customers a higher quality, more efficient, and more reliable overall experience.
