Level 3 Launches New Data Center Service in Latin America

Offers a Fully Managed, Secure Virtual Computing and Storage Environment over an End-to-end Network that Guarantees Resource Availability and Enables Burst Consumption

BROOMFIELD, Colo., July 02, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced that it is launching Level 3 Dynamic Enterprise Computing, a new data center service in Latin America. The new service is a managed hosting solution that offers customers the flexibility to define their computing needs and pay according to resource usage, while guaranteeing resource availability.

With the increasing reliance on cloud-based solutions for mission-critical applications, enterprises require not only the flexibility of traditional cloud solutions, but also the peace of mind that hosting services will perform when needed most. Traditional cloud solutions offer customers on-demand services and utility-based pricing, but they do not always guarantee resource availability or provide secure, end-to-end network performance.

“Level 3’s new Dynamic Enterprise Computing service is a fundamentally ground-breaking new way to look at the provisioning of data center services,” said Leonardo Barbero, Level 3’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Latin America. “With this model, Level 3’s Latin American customers have the ability to scale their resources as their business needs grow, improve efficiency by allocating resources where needed, and increase their security by leveraging hosting services from a provider dedicated to end-to-end protection. Level 3 Dynamic Enterprise Computing offers our customers a secure enterprise computing environment on a highly available platform, incorporating the flexibility and assurance of resources that enterprises have been seeking when choosing an infrastructure-as-a-service solution.”

Level 3 Dynamic Enterprise Computing is designed to offer virtual computing, storage and security elements with a revolutionary framework for customers that combines the assurance of computing resource availability with a dynamic pricing model based on resource consumption. Additionally, the new service does not limit resource availability when needs exceed expectation, enabling customers to rapidly scale, or burst, on computing resource consumption to cover business needs as they arise. The new service also provides managed services for operating systems and databases.

“Latin America’s fast growing economies and businesses are demanding scalable, good quality and inexpensive telecommunications services,” stated Elia San Miguel, principal research analyst at Gartner. “The region continues to look promising as a hyper-growth market because colocation, hosting and managed services have a high uptake, primarily from multinationals looking to expand their market presence.”

Specific to the Brazilian market, a recent Gartner study surveying enterprise IT decision-makers found that 60 percent of respondents planned to allocate some of their 2012 external IT services budget to cloud computing related services. Level 3, a dedicated and multi-tenant data center provider, operates more than 350 data center facilities in North America, Europe and Latin America. These facilities can offer any of three levels of service, ranging from traditional network equipment hosting to a more holistic support for managed IT solutions. Additionally, Level 3’s data centers are designed to provide scalable solutions that enable customers to expand their enterprise application resources rapidly or to enhance business continuity programs. Connectivity among sites is available via Level 3’s 165,000 intercity, metro and subsea fiber route miles.
