vWLAN builds on practice’s VMware infrastructure to provide reliable mobile wireless access
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jun. 21, 2012– ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN, news, filings), a leading provider of converged access and unified business solutions, today announced that Woburn Pediatric Associates has deployed ADTRAN’s virtual wireless LAN (vWLAN®) solution with ADTRAN’s Bluesocket® 1800 series 802.11n access points, to help physicians, nurses and staff access patient medical information from any treatment room within Woburn Pediatrics’ two locations.
An early adopter of an electronic medical record (EMR) system, Woburn Pediatric Associates uses the system to provide digital storage of patient charts and to track patient histories, medications and test results. At Woburn Pediatrics, the physicians and nurses access the EMR system on mobile tablets to document every encounter in a patient’s medical record. This real-time access to medical records has proven to reduce medical record errors and enhance patient care.
As Woburn Pediatrics’ practice has grown, the number of tablets in use at any given time has grown as well. It quickly became clear that the existing hardware, controller-based WLAN could not scale to meet the practice’s needs. Having deployed VMware, Woburn Pediatrics understood the numerous benefits of virtualization and decided to investigate a virtual WLAN solution as an alternative.
