[Johannesburg, South Africa, June 4, 2012]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that it has been selected to deploy next-generation ultra-broadband network access for Telkom South Africa. By employing Huawei’s SingleFAN solution, the network will achieve a downlink rate of up to 100 Mbit/s per user, which enhances its capability to offer products and services such as voice, data, and IPTV. Deployment of the countrywide network will involve four million users.
Telkom, Africa’s largest integrated communications company, provides integrated communications solutions to both homes and enterprises in South Africa. To maintain their competitive advantage and win more market share, Telkom plans to migrate its fixed network to a fiber-based ultra-broadband network. The migration will greatly enhance Telkom’s access bandwidth and will help address challenges of voice and data services.
Huawei’s end-to-end FTTx SingleFAN solution is well suited to Telkom’s live network and future service requirements. The solution involves telecommunications equipment upgrades, remote intelligent site construction, line quality evaluation, and deployment of broadband access equipment based on fiber or copper. A highly integrated COMBO board combines voice and VDSL2 modules on one service port, which will provide voice and high-speed Internet services (100 Mbit/s) simultaneously. The COMBO board is easy to install, and the combined installation and commissioning process allows for rapid network deployment.
