BEDFORD, MA, June 20, 2012 – Acme Packet® (NASDAQ: APKT), the leader in session delivery networks, today announced that Telefónica Digital, a global business division of Telefónica, has deployed key elements of Acme Packet’s session delivery networking portfolio to support the new TU brand of enhanced communications services.
Telefónica Digital is using Acme Packet’s Net-Net SIP Multimedia-Xpress (SMX) and Net-Net Session-aware Load Balancer (SLB) to exclusively provide the core functions of its standards-based infrastructure deployment, including core session routing and control, cluster expansion and contraction, client registration, border security, and account management.
This capability can be seen in the first of the TU services to be rolled out – TU Me –which is designed to make it as easy as possible for people to communicate with their friends and family using their smartphone. Users of TU Me can exchange text messages, make calls, leave voice messages, share photos, and location information.
Acme Packet’s simplified and scalable solution provides more responsive, cost-effective session management functions, and enables the quick and efficient roll-out of new services such as high-definition voice, messaging, file sharing, and video on multiple mobile platforms.
“Acme Packet’s streamlined solution cut our time-to-market for the TU Me service by simplifying the architecture into a flexible, standards-based package,” said Benjamin Keyser, Head of Over the Top Products at Telefónica Digital. “By building the architecture to enable scalability and load balancing, Acme Packet’s feature-rich solution not only helped lower both operational and capital expenditures, it helped us get the TU Me service to market in less than 100 days.”
“Forward-thinking service providers like Telefónica Digital are looking to avoid the complexity and expense of highly decomposed standards-based deployment models, but still be able to deliver the types of next generation services promised by the future architecture,” said Mario Oliveira, vice president of Europe, Middle East, and Africa, and Caribbean and Latin America sales, Acme Packet. “Thanks to our long-standing relationship with Telefónica Digital and the advanced capabilities of our Net-Net portfolio, we’re especially pleased that we were chosen as the sole SIP control element in Telefónica Digital’s standards-based architecture and the default communications client for Telefónica.”
Acme Packet’s high-availability configurations and load balancing ensures carrier-class service reliability for subscribers on Telefónica’s network, Wi-Fi, or any other service. The full product includes Acme Packet Net-Net Session Director’s interoperability functions and securely protects against site disasters and network connectivity failures. Through Acme Packet’s standards-based deployment, the solution provides Telefónica Digital and Telefónica with a scalable architecture for investing in forward-looking multimedia services with rapid time-to-market.
