Nokia Siemens Networks extends #TD-LTE speed record in China

Beijing, China – June 28, 2012

Achieves 1.3 Gigabits per second (Gbps) using commercial Flexi base station

Nokia Siemens Networks has achieved TD-LTE* data speeds of 1.3 Gbps using its commercial Flexi base station hardware**. The live demonstration at a recent China Information Technology show in Beijing*** marks a new world record for the 4G mobile broadband technology. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks is the first vendor to complete Phase 1 and 2 of China Mobile’s (CMCC) TD-LTE field tests and leads the industry with its TD-LTE key performance indicators (KPIs)****.

“Our record-breaking mobile broadband speeds, coupled with the successful completion of CMCC’s TD-LTE field tests, clearly underline Nokia Siemens Networks’ commitment to strengthen the TD-LTE ecosystem in China,” said Markus Borchert, president at Nokia Siemens Networks Greater China. “As the world’s specialist in mobile broadband, we will continue to drive TD-LTE innovations and commercial deployments across the globe.”

Nokia Siemens Networks provides full life-cycle services for TD-LTE, delivered both locally and remotely by a team of global experts. Notes:
*LTE can be run in paired (FDD – Frequency Division Duplexing) or unpaired (TDD – Time Division Duplexing) spectrum. TD-LTE is the TDD spectrum variant of LTE and allows operators around the globe to make use of their existing and future unpaired spectrum for 4G mobile broadband. Nokia Siemens Networks is at the forefront of TD-LTE development and commercialization, and has recently become a member of the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Partner Forum. The company is involved in half of the current TD-LTE trials around the world with more than 16 major field trials in China, Russia, Taiwan and elsewhere. The company has commercial deals with seven TD-LTE network operators including Bharti Airtel, Mobily, SKY Brazil and STC.

**This demonstration was achieved by aggregating 60 MHz of spectrum and using config 2 of 3GPP specification. At CTIA 2012, Nokia Siemens Networks demonstrated world record TD-LTE data speeds of close to 1 Gbps using commercial TD-LTE equipment. With the successful demonstration of 1.3 Gbps throughput, the company broke its own record.

***Organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the “China Informatization and New Industrialization Achievement Exhibition” is open from June 28 to 30 at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing.

****While Phase 1 involved more than 200 tests, Phase 2 included tests for advanced multiple antenna technology features such as beamforming.
