The summit focused on supplier diversity, business development, and creating business opportunities
Washington, District of Columbia, June 12, 2012
As part of National Small Business Week, the Latino Coalition Annual Economic Summit was held on May 23 in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce 2012 America’s Small Business Summit. The summit provided a venue for AT&T to leverage key diversity messages among business leaders, public policy stakeholders, and community leaders alike.
AT&T sponsored the summit which focused on supplier diversity, business development and creating business opportunities. Prominent Latino small business owners, government agencies, and non-profit organizations participated. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, Senator Marco Rubio and Marianne Strobel, Executive Director, AT&T Global Supplier Diversity, were featured speakers.
Speaking on AT&T’s standing as a leader in supplier diversity, Strobel described AT&T’s passion for diverse businesses—highlighting how AT&T spent over $12 billion dollars with diverse suppliers last year, representing 23 percent of the company’s total spend. In closing, Strobel discussed AT&T’s goal to move diverse suppliers to the next level in order to create more jobs.
The event received significant news coverage (CSPAN & Associated Press) as Strobel immediately preceded the introduction of Mitt Romney. Beside policy makers, the event was well attended by small business owners from across the country and Latin America, including delegations of leaders from Bolivia, Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
